Continental Tires Noisy ???
I have a 2014 GLK 350 RWD with standard 19" wheels and Conti Tires. I love the car except for the unacceptable road noise. At around 70-80 mph, on the freeway, it is difficult to carry on a conversation with my passenger.
Is this normal or should I invest in different tires? If so, what would be the best ones to buy. I only have 12,000 miles, on the car, and would hate to have to buy new tires but if that is what it takes I will bite the bullet.
I would also like to know which tire pressure to follow. The gas filler door shows 33/33. The plaque, by the driver's door, shows 35/41.
My 2014 is hard to fault. I have had zero defects and hope to enjoy it for a long time. If I can just get this road noise reduced there is little else to ask.

35/41 is hot tires with passengers/cargo, my tires are 35-38 cold and 38-40 when hot. If your car is CPO then see if the dealer is willing to do anything. I just got a new set of Pirelli Scorpion Verde A/S and they are quiet at Hwy speeds, if you cant carry a normal conversation without raising your voice while going 70-80mph then that is not normal.

The noise is probably your sunroof or windshield , yes the faster I go the noisier it gets, try taking your service rep for a fast ride as see what they say. Better tires will be a bit quieter but I don't think that much. 33/33 is running a normal load of weight, 35/41 is a fully loaded vehicle. I run 33/33, I was a bit higher in pressure but I find at a higher pressure I'm wearing more of the center of the tire.

I broke down and bought four Michelin Premier LTX tires and now my car feels like a luxury automobile. The annoying noise level is gone. I also believe the ride is better.
It seemed foolish to throw away tires, after only 12,000 miles but it was well worth it.

Ok, great, I put on a pair of the Michelin premier last year on the rear, and yes, I noticed it felt like I just swapped out the struts for an upgrade, as you did. I have the factory continentals on the front and in about 5000 miles have lost nearly half the tread in the middle of the tire, they will be junk soon. I thought the noise was my windshield area. Now I have incentive to get rid of the two front continentals. After measuring the tire wear patterns, I'd suggest keeping your tires at 33 cold pressure. Those continentals don't rate very well in all respects, when compared to a few newer tires out recently

The faster you go a glk will get noisier around the windshield and yes the tires after a while do get louder. If you use run flats they tend to make more noise and have a firmer truck like ride.

When I replaced the OEM runflat with normal tires at 10,000 miles. (nail ruined one OEM) I also made sure they were NOT directional. There is no real need for a directional tire on a SUV. This allows me to have the shop do a cross rotation which will reverse the tires rotation. Makes for a lot less cupping (which causes a lot of noise) over the life of the tire. I went with a TOYO versado CUV. They were a bit noisy, But after the first cross rotation at 5K they settled down quite a bit. Now at 34,000 on my GLK, (24K on the Toyo's) the tires are very quite. I do a cross rotation and oil change every 5K.
