40,000 mile service worth it???
Hey guys, I bought my first Mercedes a few months ago, and just wanted to know if it is worth taking it to the dealer for the 40,000 mile service. Being that it only has 11k miles left on the warranty, would it be a good idea to pay the high dealer cost just to get everything checked out; or since I've always worked on every one of my cars just service it myself and save the cash.
What are your thoughts and opinions?
Thanks

I am new to Mercedes in that I purchase a 2015 ML350 in Feb, a CPO model. I would review the items they check during a 40,ooo mile check and things like checking tire pressure, replacing windshield wiper and things you can do, delete them from the service. Just have the dealer check stuff like replacing dust filter, combination filter, or other stuff. Some call this an ala carte service . Thats what I do. Also, it makes no sense to have them check that will not be covered by the warranty. You could get that done somewhere else or at least have them give you an estimate on it. Also ask the service person to look for any stuff since it will be soon out of warranty. At least this way if you have a problem later on and want Mercedes to fix it, you have a record that you took it to a dealer while it was under warranty. Just my thoughts

They can't deny warranty unless the failure you have is somehow related to what you did. If you service it outside and the engine blows up, you would have to prove that the correct MB oil and filter were used and at the correct intervals.
Since that doesn't really happen, most warranty failures are electrical and accessory things, they are unrelated to the services and will be covered anyway.
Regardless, if you have proof of you completing the proper service at a different location, you will maintain any warranty coverage.
