Audio 20 amplifier location
does anyone know where the amplifier is located in the stock audio (non-HK) system? Is it built into the head-unit? Is there any way to get line-in audio in this vehicle for an aftermarket amplifier?

It's in the head unit, I hooked up an Audison 8.9 , it can go in from speaker out. I went with the Audison Bit Dmi (optical interface) but you will need someone that knows how to reprogram Mercedes . In Chicago there is someone. The speakers are what really suck.

How did you find a place to set that up? Seamless integration with MOST optical is no doubt the way to go. Frustrating you can't DIY install these oem integration devices since you can't program them yourself...
I'm in michigan, chicago is a bit of a drive and I doubt they can install in one day haha. Lots of audio installers in the world and I'm sure most are crap.
How did you even find an audison dealer? Looks like mObridge has a similar product but similarly difficult to find a competent dealer and you cant program it yourself.

I shopped, just two places but I found a small place near me with a real good installer, Audison is at quality shops. The programming was potentially the biggest issue, the unit worked but in upgrading to optical interface the analog had to programmed out by a real good tech that had or hacked Mercedes , My dealer recommended him! I'd say if you have an amp, Bit Dmi , and programming it could be done in 3 hours. The speakers and sub maybe 4-6 hours, a also put in a JL powered sub . But now you can improve your sound by going into the Engineering menu, there is a full 5 band EQ hidden in there.

West Michigan. I don't think there's anyone around here that can integrate with MOST. I'd be willing to try to hack in a ktp445u myself but I can't seem to find any wiring diagrams for anything on this car. I've been knee deep in many car dashes for audio installation so that doesn't bother me but Mercedes seem to really really keep their diagrams and wiring under wraps and most owners are not diy. This is my first experience with a german car and the audio bit seems a nightmare. Modern cars are overly complicated. Audio quality is simple. Power handling and an abundance of power at low thd is really all you need.
I have the money for an installer but I feel like most installers are in a hurry and will not take the time I would take and may not even have access to the wiring diagrams I can't get access to either

You don’t need to acced Most unless your going to use a digital to digital converter . I used an Audison Bit Dmi , a different place in Chicago had to access my system to change the signal path, that itself cost me 200$ otherwise you could use an Audison 8.9: a powerful amp with built in preamp. The main instal I had done at ABC automotive , john is the owner, they are real good, I ended up having speakers , sub, amp, HId lights and cameras installed by them , they are in Forest park illinios.ill have to look up the name of the other shop that did the Most conversion. Using digital to digital you will notice with CD and quality streaming but not all music since streaming at low bandwidth hurts quality . I spent near 3000 on just the stereo.

Mid city engineering is the place in Chicago that did the Most bypass, and their bid was higher for the whole job. They also do quality work. It’s easily a days job to do all the work for one person
