Hi there, I am trying to decide if I want to purchase additional warranty from MB on my GLK250 which is nearing 50K. From my research it seems like not many models have had major issues that warranty usually covers, so I am not sure what good the limited warranty is for? can you help me with that?

 

I would get an ELW on your car if you are going to keep it especially a diesel. Cost for repairs are expensive.

 

As stated by dieseldoc, diesel repairs are not cheap. If you are keeping the car get the warranty. The emissions gear on these cars is very complicated and can fail in very expensive ways. Most of the emissions system should be covered to 7years/80kmiles in the US, but don't be surprised if they try to pass the cost to you.

 

I've got 7/75K ELW for $3,300 for my 2014 GLK250. Currently have just 32K and original warranty expires in August 2017. The repair of 2 NOx sensors twice taught me a lesson.

 

I have a GLK350 and just purchased the 3 year ELW just before my factory warranty ran out. To me, it's good insurance. Make sure to check out the Extended Warranty Discussion on this site for much better deals than your local dealer will give. There is a huge markup on the ELW. I got a quote from Jeff Jackson of Tafel Motors and saved major money. The ELW forum has a number of dealerships that will sell you an ELW at much lower prices. That make the decision a lot easier.

 

This is true, but keep in mind that our GLK250 is in "Tier 3 | S-Class, SL-Class, CLS, Diesel, R-Class", where the regular GLK350 is in "Tier 1 | CLA, GLA, C-Class, GLK, SLK", so as I said above in my case it was $3300 (7/75k) with 2 years 0% APR payments.

Maybe you can get better, keep looking.
