Finally did the conversion. I was crossing my fingers hoping I ordered the correct parts because I had no Dealer help with this. I used a brand new GLE63 fully optioned circuit board with great success. Now to find a good deal on black walnut trim.

ou can utilize most steering wheel cores with from the 2015-2018 cars ($800+). You cannot use the W222 two spoke wood steering wheel.
Use that as your blank canvas, you will need to add in the trim, electronics, and airbag.
We will start with the electronics. The only buttons compatible with our instrument cluster are:
099-905-06-00-9107 - (black left arrow button) about $50
099-905-07-00-9107 - (black right button) about $50
No other buttons will work. There are two identical looking right side buttons, ensure you order a 099-905-07-00-9107 version, NOT the 099-905-03-00-9107 as the computer is different.
There are several compatible circuit boards, but I found the universal one to be the GLE63 circuit board 099-464-13-00 (around $80). This will work regardless if you have or don't have heated and lane keep assist. The only issue is you have heated steering and install a steering wheel without the heating element and turn on heated steering; the instrument panel will display heated steering malfunction.
The wire harness cables are interchangeable between all the models regardless of the button style.

Next we will discuss the trim. If you bought a round bottom steering, the trim does not need to be switch. If you decided on the flat bottom sporty steering wheel, the trim housing the buttons has to be made compatible.
The silver plastic trim you need is 099-464-30-13-2A17 (runs about $150). If the core comes with black buttons, it is likely you do NOT need to change this. A steering wheel from the S63 AMG with silver buttons will need to be change (this was my scenario). You can also change the bottom trim to be all silver or say AMG / AMG EDITION 1.
Lastly the steering wheel air bag. They are MANY MANY that are compatible from beige leather stitched to black synthetic only. I won't go into too much detail on this, but for sport bottom you need 000-860-17-02-9116 Black synthetic. round bottom steering wheel will need 000-860-15-02-9116.
If you get anything with wood or carbon fiber you can expect well over $1000 for the wheel itself. Leather only versions can be had for less than $400 on the used market.

Did a FULL center console tear down, vacuum, cleaning, and reassembly today. Switch out my Burl Walnut to Black Ash walnut. I found a bunch of receipts, trash, dirt, and a CD .

Updated interior lights to correct retrofit. You want the 000-906-31-05 (9051 black color code) for our GLKs.

Hey Johnny,
Nice modding! My wife just found a 2015 with only 16k miles off a lease. Its pretty basic so I will need to start making upgrades! Git started this morning with the easy stuff, ordered Weathertech floor mats.
A couple of questions for you

Did you actually add memory seat control on the passenger side?
What did you replace the ashtray with?

Regarding the memory seat; i hit a road block trying to source a seat with the memory package. In the USA, the seat itself has to come with premium real animal leather. So I would have to spend a ton of money to get a seat in the right color or buy a leather seat and convert to my color. You also need to make a custom wire harness for the controls to the door modules. But from the module to the seat uses this part number for a wire harness 204-440-40-35 (memory, passenger right side). So will probably be a long time before i find some seats and add it in.
Still trying to source the center console ash tray delete. only available outside of America. Various retailers i tried to contact, with money in hand, never followed up. It is not even an expensive part either.... like €40

Ashtray Delete
Thanks Johnny
memory passenger seats are off the wish list!
Interesting that Europe has a non ash tray version but not the US
Do you have a part number?
Ok did some research last night
According to this parts breakout (source LINK)
We need 2 maybe 3 parts, The non Ashtray storage module(35), the insert(75) and the plug(40)(if it is not included in the storage module, but it appears it is included- confirmed its included in 35).
Pictures of each part
A2046809050
A2046890396
A0008204951
But damn Johnny, you are right - these are hard to find. Well all but the plug.
My wife was lamenting that there is no place to put your glasses in the GLK, this mod would be perfect(if she doesn't fill it with other stuff first!)

The rubber insert is available for order in the USA, but not the plastic tray. I might tell my uncle to order a few from Taiwan or Japan Mercedes-Benz Dealers instead of European. I have the rubber insert already.
You do not need the outlet, that is for the the 2008-2012 because the parts diagram you posted includes both versions. This mod is not possible for the W204, there is a shifter mechanism there.

LOL
I contacted an MB internet part supplier and asked if they could get the part. Here is their reply
Looks like our only option is to smuggle them in!

We can not source any item that is restricted from US import from Mercedes. This includes many European only part options included signal lamps and other interior parts.Thank you for contacting us.Best regards,
