Thick white smoke on start up and lifter ticking
I’ll start with I have a 2012 glk 350 with 100k miles. Last year I did a lot of traveling and accumulated 50k in that year alone. A few weeks ago my driveshaft broke, banged one of my cats up a little bit as well as an o2 sensor. while I was waiting for shaft and sensor it sat for a week in about 15-20 degree weather. While replacing shaft I noticed an oil leak from the common pcv failure( that is currently on order now with complimentary oil drip pan.
Nonetheless the shaft was replaced and upon start I discovered thick white smoke followed by constant lifter ticking while idling or acceleration and thin white smoke while driving. I proceeded to try the easiest fix by giving it a fresh oil change (5w-30) and some Lucas oil stabilizer problem still persists.
What could be the problem?

The smoke could be a clogged PVC system, the lifter noise is a worry, If pvc is clogged with sludge it indicates you ran the motor cold or did a lot of short trips not allowing it to warm up and the oil went bad. 0-40 Mobil 1 is superior to 5-30, You need to find out if the pvc system works and if your motor is sludged up. Does it take long to warm up? What temp do you run after 10 minutes? Change your oil now and figure out if your sludged up

Doesn't Lucas thicken the oil? Lifter noise is Lack of lubrication. And thicker oil might make it worse. How long do you go between oil changes and what oil do you use. Mobil 1 0-40 is higher quality than their 5-30. 26$ at Walmart for 5 quart

The driveshaft came apart and it only damaged catalyst a little bit?? Wow did you get lucky. I've seen those driveshafts come apart and destroy the bell housing of the transmission, oil pans on the engine and even knock a hole in the side of the crankcase.
Are you positive nothing else got damaged in there?

Today I replaced the pcv cover and connecting oil drip pan as well as new bolts recommended by Mercedes, I also used rhreadlocker blue to ensure bolts would not vibrate. Nonetheless I fixed the oil leaking onto the exhaust. I also flushed the engine twice and placed 0w-40 Mobil 1 in it with some mystery oil, still have lifter tick and white smoke. Any suggestions?

350 GLK, C280
With 100K miles, does not sound economical to rebuild as you will also probably need to replace intake manifold selection valves and the stability control pump-valving as some point in the near future. If you like the GLK, you probably would be best to trade for a CPO in the 2014-2015 year range. If you live in a state that has emission testing, with a bad cylinder it probably won't pass and then you will be forced to do something after getting a failed test. If the vehicle looks good, it will probably trade for $8 to $10k, $10K for the engine rebuild $1500 for the intake and $2000 for the Stability control, and maybe you need tires for $800, so you are optimistically at $24500 which will get a CPO GLK with miles still under warranty.
