14 GLK 250 dreaded wind whistle at highway speeds

Just purchased a used GLK 250 with the loud whistle caused by the heater box seal at highway speeds.. Have searched on all the forums but was looking for more specific info. The solutions seems to either replace the seal or put “felt tape” on the seal. For those of you that have come across this issue I would love some more info. Could you fix the problem without the dealer.? What part was needed? Or what felt tape? If the dealer fixed it What did they do and what did they charge for time? And specific info on the repair would be great. Someone mentioned there is a spcific fix from MBUSA but I could not find it anywhere. Thanks

I'm not familiar with this "dreaded" issue. Can you be more specific? The only pronounced wind noise in mine happens from the roof rails and bike carriers I put on top

It was well documented on the forum by previous people. the heater air box seam separates and creates a whistle at highway speeds when air is forced into the intake. you can change the tone or volume of the whistle by pressing the recirc button on the AC panel. It is very loud and annoying. MBusa has a fix for it but I dont have access to those types of documents. If there is anyone at MB that can send me the official fix on the tech bulletin i would gladly send them a gift card of sorts. From previous posts it seams that the fix involves putting felt tape somewhere around it. Thank you very much!

Wasn't that problem limited to the pre-facelift models prior to 2013?

Probably not because I have experienced it.

If anyone is interested I found the problem and have a solution.

I took a few things apart and found a big problem in the seal of the air intake going into the air box. Its on the engine side of the heater box.
Above your battery on the left side under the hood you have a air box that directs air from the outside of the car around a bend through the box and into interior of the car towards your glove box.
That box is held in place by tabs and two clips.
Removing the box will let you see what is in the pictures attached.
Looking in the left side of the air intake, you can see heat from the engine compartment has damaged the shape of the seal/plastic.
When air is coming into the vechicle and heater box it is hitting/leaking through the seal and holes as shows in the pictures.
Dealers have been using felt tape to seal it, I used strips of duck tape about 2.5 inch wide to seal all around the seal.
I have just completed a 1800Mile drive and can confirm the problem is 100% gone.
