GLK adblue problems
I find it ironic (but not unbelievable) that a dealership would propose a $8.4K+ "fix" without bothering to first check and advise you on the DEF level.
If you haven't yet, please top off your DEF tank. You can buy a couple 2.5-gallon jugs for $15 each at AutoZone, for example (https://www.autozone.com/miscellaneo...uid/248484_0_0).
It comes with the hose and nozzle, just carefully pour into the DEF tank to top off the fluid in there. The warning message will go out once the tank is filled. Capacity is 7.3 gallons.
Good luck, let us know if that solves your problem.
It's not uncommon for multiple NOX sensors to fail and I think I read that there were a lot of failures prior to 2014 due to a bad batch. You need an OBD2 adapter to read the codes if you want to she what the computer thinks is wrong.
The NOX sensors are a key component of the diesel emissions system and should not be failing at 40k miles. You could try to argue that they should be covered by the 8 year emissions warranty if you are in the USA. You might also want to mention all of the diesel cheating that has been happening and Mercedes is also involved (thought I think it is just shutting of DEF injection at cold ambient temps.). If you are calm, reasonable, and insistent, you should be able to talk them into a good will replacement since the mileage is so low and you are just out of warranty by time. You can also go up the chain where they may be more helpful with the good will repairs.
Good luck.
I have a 2013 GLK (Model GLK250 Bluetec 4Matic) with 79K mileage, at 35K I had a similar experience. My ADBLUE engine light popped with 3 starts remaining. The MB dealership temporarily fixed the issue after $1200 for metering valve. However my check engine light went off 6 times after that requiring 6 trips to the MB dealership. Most times fixed without a costly bill other than the diagnostics fee. One 'check engine light' repair trip, I had to replace DP (diesel particulate) sensors for about $1500 approximately - I definitely could not drive the car as I was creating an impressive "James Bond Car" smoke screen in my wake (unacceptable for health and safety)!
Recently, after my ADBLUE and 80K miles service (78,094 miles), the check engine light went on. I was asked to replace 2 NOX sensors, which I did at $2400 plus tax. The very next day, the check engine light went on again. The GLK calibration was checked and my GLK is in MB service shop again awaiting parts from Germany!
MB needs to have a data scientist analyze the service logs and identify the root cause. Then Mercedes Benz's very, very competent engineers can fix the root cause of this repeated check engine lights, tied to nox sensors and adblue. It is an expensive and repetitive repair pattern. I hope the clever MB engineers resolve this and push a service procedure to the technicians. It is very annoying and affecting diesel MB brand perception of top of the line quality.
I still love how the GLK drives so I will probably continue to deal with this headache....
