Brake replacement cost - is this high for an authorized service center?
I recently purchased a 2010 GLK that is in great shape and was well maintained. I just took it in for an A service this week. Got a great report back on it. The only thing the MB service center noted was that I would need brakes replaced in the near future and gave me a quote:
Front Pads and Rotors - $1049.64
Rear Pads and Rotors - $794.38
Brake System Flush - $229.28
I told the service manager I would get back to him on this as the time approached. I understand it's a Mercedes, but this seems out there to me. Anyone else had similar service performed at a MB center? Is this in line with what you paid?
Thanks!

Frankly - a brake job fore a 2010 GLK is one thing you are NOT best served by a Mercedes dealer.... you can source the genuine MB parts online (or your choice of "upgraded parts) and have any competant wheel/tire/brake shop do for you.
1. Autohausaz.com full "OE" brake parts kit both front and rear $500 : https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/GLK350BRAKEKIT
The eBay aftermarket sets are less - if you want to lean that way...
Your choice cowbow but $1700+ for a 201o GLK dealer brake job - there are better ways to spend your money more wisely.
Keep the beat !

Thanks for the link to the OE set!
Fortunately I know a competent local mechanic that can do it. I just could not believe the price and was wondering if this actually in line with what other MB centers would charge. If not I'll choose a different MB center to bring it to next service.
What brakes/rotors do you use on yours if I may ask?

I used Akebono ceramic pads and Stoptech rotors and the parts cost for all four wheels was under $500. Because I used the ceramic pads I no longer have black wheels from brake dust and I don't have to wash the car every two weeks. The Stoptech rotors now have 10k miles on them and I can still see the cross hatch machining marks so they are wearing much better than stock. The stock front pads and rotors were done at 32k miles. The rear had another 8-10k left but were replaced anyway.
Note that the stock Mercedes pads bite faster so with ceramic pads you need a bit more pedal pressure. However they stop just as well and I have had the misfortune of experiencing a traffic situation that required testing them and they performed well.
Others have reported good results with Beck/Arnley and Brembro rotors. I would not (did not) use Mercedes brake parts since they just wear out too fast for as much as they cost.
Brake fluid swap was $50 for mercedes fluid and $70 for the motive bleeder tool.

Holy crap! 400-500 in MB parts and I would not use MB parts again, that was a mistake. Front rotors warped and pads are super dusty. So call it $300 in parts and 1 hour per corner, comfortably.

I got Brembo coated rotors and Akebono pads all the way around for 360 bucks from RockAuto. The shipping was about 30 bucks.

I've ordered OEM MB brakes and other parts online at https://www.mbpartsprime.com/ at really good deals with the factory warranty. Hope this helps.

The trouble with MB brake parts, particularly rotors, is that they tend to warp pretty easily when used on the GLK. Some parts don't even stock the MB-brand discs, for example, but will still sell the pads. There are way better options than MB-brand brake products, which is how I'm trying to improve the braking in my GLK whilst avoiding another set of warped rotors within 10-15K miles.
Been there, done that.
Bigger brakes seems to be the best overall solution, as the GLK is quite a portly specimen and the brakes take a beating even in any amount of "spirited" driving.

replaced w/oem from autohauz...easy brake job for anyone who has ever done a brake job...absolutely nothing mysterious...check out youtube videos and you'll see how easy it is...if not comfortable, bring parts to local mechanic and pay them labor...will take a few hours max
