GLK P2081 Error Code
Hi All,
Let me start by saying i search this code to death online on this form and others. I have a specific question about my situation. I bought the car 2 years ago and have had this code on and off. I think it comes on more often on cold nights. I have had it show up in the summer as well though. I understand that P2081 - Exhaust Gas Temperature EGT Sensor Circuit Intermittent Bank 1 Sensor 1. Which means that on occasion the EGT sensor will not read the temp for a short period of time. I also understand that this is a nuisance check engine light and there is nothing wrong with my car. I just need it gone. I have replaced the Bank 1 (Passenger side in Canada) Sensor 1 (Pre cat sensor) part number 000-905-35-05. Any thing else i should replace or look into? Or is this something i must have the dealership deal with.
I have a 2013 GLK250.
you help will greatly be appreciated.

I take it replacing that first EGT sensor hasn't solved your problem. Sorry for your troubles.
Doing some reading online and I think there may be other sensors you should be looking at as well. I think there's a sensor post-cat as well as in the DPF itself.
How have your regens been? How many miles on your GLK?

Well as far as i know there are several EGT sensors on each bank. I was more wondering which one is talking to the Bank1 Sensor 1 that is telling it that there is a discrepancy. It might be the post cat sensor for all i know. I'm not sure what regens mean but my car has 145,000 KM. Since i replace the pre cat sensor. the check engine has come on once and disappeared 2 days later on its own. Its been a month since i replaced the sensor.

Regens are when the diesel particulate filter (DPF) is being actively cleaned during driving. It uses AdBlue (separate tank in the trunk, under that carpeted pad) to chemically scrub the DPF while injecting more fuel and getting that DPF pretty much glowing hot. Surely you've noticed a hot exhaust-ish type smell now and then?
In my opinion, these GLK250s would be a lot more bulletproof if not for all the exhaust aftertreatment devices, sensors, and a bunch of wizardry that chokes these poor engines.
Ours has 91k miles (nearly the same as yours), I do all of our maintenance and the AdBlue system is my worst fear. Hopefully the new sensor takes care of your problems, I'd keep scanning it and if possible, check the status of the DPF with your scan tool. You might be able to further diagnose it that way.
Good luck.

So i took it to the dealer finally and apparently this error code can also be cause by temp sensor in the turbo intake as well (000-905-64-04). 400 dollars later i haven't had a check engine light in 2000 KM. I think i'm all good now.
