all- the service manual doesn't have any info on this but does anyone know the fluid capacity and at what mileage this unit is supposed to be changed? This is for the RWD model

Would you believe M-B does not specify a rear axle oil change interval for the GLK?

https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevol...uchbegriff=204

MB spec 235.61 75W-140

Fill capacity from 0.95 liters to 1.35 liters depending on your VIN. What is your VIN?

On my AWD, it was almost exactly a quart maybe a tad more - so I would get 2 quarts.
I would definitely recommend changing the fluid. It wasn't pretty after 90k miles. I will probably do diffs when doing transmission going forward.

I just look at my 2015 GLK 350 rear diff and it doesn't have the high/low fill/drain bolts that you all have. Trying to find the details on how to do the rear diff fluid change.

Not handy, but I found a rear diff on ebay for a 2010 X204 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-MERCED...QAAOSwnhdd1yb6) that is just like mine. Bolts are forward of each axle and low.

On some you fill it from the drain hole by pumping it back in, such a stupid pain in the *** design

How does one "fill" when the drain hole is the lowest point? Are we talking about jacking one side of the GLK up and tossing in a quart + in there?

This picture has both drain and fill holes.

This applies to front diff. You fill up the same way as transmission using the same screw-in attachment and pumping in about 0.6L maybe a bit more, then quickly unscrew the attachment and put the drain plug back in. There is a bit of spillage you have to account for but this is the easiest way.

Drain on passenger side, fill on driver side in these pics.

Here is what the plug looks like

I definitely understand the transmission process because it has the internal tube off the drain, but these suckers are just drains. I'm going to attempt the one side lift method and put in 0.6L.

Thanks for confirming. I was pretty disappointed when I didn't see a high fill and low drain bolt like in the YouTube videos.

Rear diff takes more than 0.6L it takes a tad over 1L at least on 2010 GLK and 2014 E. You might want to measure how much comes out to confirm. Snap pics before you start tilting stuff.

Perfect. I thought it was 1.2L or 1.3L and I'll definitely measure.

2012 GLK350 4matic
Just changed my 4Matic rear differential fluid on my 2012 GLK350 with 38,400 miles on it. I used Liqui Moly Hypoid Gear Oil SAE 85W-90. Used less than one bottle. Forgot how bad the smell of gear oil is.

Got the GLK350 up on my Quickjack, cracked open the fill plug first to ensure that I could fill it no problem and it wasn't stuck, before opening the drain plug and emptying its contents.
Make sure you get a good catch pan for the oil fluid and use a T14 Torx screw to loosen the drain and fill plugs in the rear. Also use some teflon tape or pipe dope to coat the thread slightly to ensure a good seal when putting the drain and fill plugs back in after filling it with gear oil to the point where the oil starts to seep out the top fill plug. Not too bad to perform on the GLK350 4Matic compared to my 2018 Audi SQ5. Only recommendation is that you use a siphon or something flexible to transfer the gear oil from the bottle to the fill plug because the angles are fairly tight near the fill plug and don't have enough clearance to actually try to pour directly from the gear oil bottle directly into the fill hole.

As I understand, Mercedes recommends that you change out both plugs when you change the gear oil. Does anyone have the part number for those? Is the top and bottom the same part number? I have a 2013.

They want you to change everything, it’s only used a few times in its life , I never heard anyone recommend it.
