Power Liftgate issues

Hi Guys,

I noticed the left strut on my power tailgate leaking and I'm planning to replace it. The symptoms is once the hatch opens all the way up, it drops down abruptly by about 6 inches which has hit my head a couple times! Scary!

I'm in Canada, so parts are hard to find. However, I found this on item Amazon Canada, but it lists the item specifically as (Non-Power). My 2012 GLK has a powered liftgate so I'm super confused why there is a non-powered strut? Shouldn't struts just be struts? Check out the part here:

If this doesn't work, anyone know the OEM part number that I can order from a trustable US parts dealer? Should I be searching for part # A2049801564 ?

Yikes:
As you probably know, the powered tailgate was an option - of course meaning some GLKs do not have it. The struts have to be different strengths (different internal gas pressure etc.) based on whether or not the tailgate has "power assist" or not. You also have the option of adjusting opening height (where the tailgate stops opening) which you do not have on the non-powered version. All this leads to different technical requirements for the struts. Naturally, that means different part numbers.

Clon3, I am wondering if these struts fixed your problem? I have the same exact issue; my liftgate goes to the highest setting and then precipitously drops about 6 inches. Only from the highest setting, I can set the limiter lower and it holds just fine, but then I have to duck to get under it...

Hey AKFire,

Yup, that fixed the problem. Install was less than 10 mins. Plug and play basically. I did notice a couple of places sold the same types of struts but prices range quite a bit. So just shop around and find one for a cheaper price. I think I bought the Stabilus brand. Hope this helps!
