Engine mount problem

I am replacing my mounts and got driver side in but on passenger side i cannot get enough clearance to install...anyone know of a trade trick. It seems i cannot get the engine to lift high enough.

Did you remove the alternator?

Got it

I did remove aternator.... finally got it using a bottle jack closer to the mounts

yep best way is to jack each side of the engine up as high as possible to squeeze in the new mount. Sucks that the mount replacement is so much more work on the 4matic cars.

My mounts are done at 135,000 km. You can tell because you get a lot of vibration at idle. They are hydraulic and wear out quite quickly.

That's a long life out of them. We routinely replaced them before 50,000 miles

On a glk250 or 350? I have never done them yet. I haven't noticed it shake at all at idle. I did have a look at them a while back but couldn't notice any wear. Maybe I should look harder. Mines a 250...

They may have been done previously. I've only owned the car for 1 year.

How to tell if mounts need replacing

Car will vibrate more than normal while in drive and foot on the brake...i.e when at a stop light. Check by having someone put car in drive and keep foot on brake and rev engine to about 2000 rpm...with hood open, observe engine and if it “jumps” up, likely need new mounts

Thanks. I will try that but 2000 rpm seems crazy high for that test. U must be talking 350's at that rpm? anyone having issues on the 250's with the mount?

It's only the 350's. 250's have different mounts.
