GLK to GTI?

I took a job last summer which has led me to a 100 mile round trip commute. I currently am driving a 2015 Mercedes GLK350 4 Matic. I have 75000k on the odo. I owe $2500 on it. I have had it for 3 years. It has been pretty rock solid. No issues to speak of until recent where I got a check engine light and the car would shake. When I shut the car off and get back in it is gone. It is usually happening once every 2 weeks. Stealership quoted $1500 to replace some gaskets which are potentially leaking oil and causing misfire. I will need front brakes soon. (another $500.) Otherwise the car is solid. I generally get 27 MPg on my commute.
This has cause me to start weighing out some options. I drove a few lesser lux brand cars as commuters to see what i could live with. I landed on the GTI because other vehicles in this segment were comparatively a bore. I have found a few 2020 leftover S models all asking $25k. I have been offered $15k for the Mercedes.
I have been weary of going from my pretty solid (maybe boring) German built Mercedes. To a Mexican built Volkswagen. Of course the VW will have 0 miles and a 4 year warranty over the Benz. My cost analysis to own both outright is $4,500 to have all repairs and pay off whats owed and own outright my 2015 GLK with 75,000 miles. Vs. $14,000 with trade plus payoff to own the new GTI.
I have the cash so wont be getting loan. Just want to know what the internet thinks of this as I am truly not 100% either way?

I know it’s not your question , but what did the code read relating to shaking ? Because I can’t see how a few gaskets are the issue, possible an ignition coil is bad and when it’s hot it misfires, get a good independent mechanic, a lot cheaper than mb dealers .

First of all I'm extremely surprised they would offer you 15K on a trade-in. That seems very high. Dealers usually offer a very low price on trades. You will get a bit better mileage with the GTI. The comfort and ride quality will suffer dramatically.
Personally I would keep the GLK. $14K pays for a lot of fuel and repairs.

the code is actually cylinder 2 misfire from ignition coil. Seems like a pretty straight forward repair

Then have your local repair shop replace the coil-coils, coils usually fail when hot and work cold, like as you said it works after cooled down , your dealer will be at least double the price of a quality independent shop. Fcp euro is where you should order parts. All pets Guaranteed for life.

Thats the plan. I just drove the GTI for a 30ish mile road test. I am impressed by the DCT Tranny and the engine combo. Its just literally everything else that bugs me. Turned the radio on and the speaker housing was buzzing along with the beat, Road noise. It truly is an economy car with a fabulous drivetrain. I wish they would have left the GTI to be built in Germany. Its glaring what a difference. Someday I'll own a GT for giggles. But not as my long milage commuter.
