Bump from behind

About 10 seconds after coming to a full stop I feel something like a light tap on the rear of the car. I assume it's a brake releasing, or something similar. Does anyone know if this is normal, and what causes it?

TIA,

Yes, it's something most all Bluetec owners have felt and wondered about. It's something to do with the torque converter releasing/locking up or something like that. Ours has done it most of its life, currently has 124K miles and no transmission issues to speak of.

It's the GLK in my profile. 75K miles. No idea about the fluid, except the car was CPO at 71K miles.

TIA,
Yup its a normal and well know GLK "feature". Absolutely nothing you can do about it. it comes and goes as well. Dealer told me its just something you live with lol.

Changing the trans is a very good idea since issues are known to start at 35000 miles, it probably was never changed, a dealer might charge 700+.
Get an independent mechanic to do it, be sure he has done it many times before because the fill procedure is from below with the motor running to a certain temp. Get your fluids and filter from FCP euro. I spent about 500 total for the trans oil change .

The harder you drive/come to a stop, the harder you’ll feel it. It’s how it is.

Hi John, I had the same issue with my '15. It felt like being rear-ended especially on harder stops. Meanwhile, the wife's '14 doesn't have the issue. My dealership researched the issue with Mercedes and fixed my truck the following way:

Performed LI document 27.79-P-056898 (I think that looks for fault codes and software updates but they found none)
Pulled drive shaft; Cleaned and installed grease on inner and outer splines; Reinstalled drive shaft. (They had to order new shaft bolts as they apparently can't be reused).
This was done in 2017 at about 17,000 miles. So far, so good.

Wow, thanks! You may be on to something. If the splines are binding then the driveshaft will bind up when the weight shifts during braking, and if and when it releases, it would do exactly what I'm experiencing. Should be a pretty easy fix. I'll have to look into those bolts...
