Question Gas smell all over the car

Hello, everyone! I am new here. I bought a 2011 GLK 350 and I get a gasoline smell all over the car, sometimes even while I am inside. However, I don't see any drops on the floor. Has anyone experienced something similar that could help me find out the cause? The mechanic replaced the spring coils in the back and said he used a torch at some point and nothing happened. Nevertheless, I continue smelling the gas in the back, be it the gas cap side or the other side and even the front. I don’t get any Check Engine error codes. Any suggestions?

Need to pinpoint the location. Common areas to check: carbon canisters, fuel pump/tank seal, fuel line at the connection on/near the engine.

Mechanic likely damaged the fuel filler or carbon canister components. Tell him to get back in there and fix what he broke.

It sounds like regarding the mechanic's work "something happened".

I'm with @chassis on this.

If the gas smell started AFTER the rear spring coil replacement, then it's possible this issue is a side effect of the use of the torch. The residual heat may have damaged a "gas component" in the area.

I'd also add this issue needs to be addressed asap!

search for discussion about fuel pump related gas smell.
The pump under rear seat and cover cracks.
There may have been a recall for that.

I guess I was not clear when I wrote the original post because I was in a hurry. The smell was there before I took the car for the replacement of the broken spring and change of brakes. Before taking the car in, I fill the car with 7/8 of the tank capacity. I was going to tell the mechanic about the smell, but I was in a hurry, as usual. However, I did him after he had finished the work and he said he would have noticed since he is spooked about those cases. He could not smell it when I was asking him, while I did. The smell is not that strong and may be getting weaker as I use more gas. I will check with the dealer to find out if there was a recall. Thanks for the advice.

If the car had blown up while he was using the torch I guess you'd wish you had mentioned the gas smell.

GLK gas smell after “repair”

I smelled gas and was told that the top cover (a metal piece under the rear seat) was full of gas. Mercedes replaced it and I paid over 1600 in Dec. 2021. Mar. 2023 I smelled gas again and they replaced the same “top” free of charge, it is now May 2023 and I am smelling gas again. Has anyone experienced this?

Haven't experienced this issue, but you should contact the repair facility that worked on it the last two times ... if the repair only lasted two months, they did it incorrectly, or some other component(s) has failed.

Yes they said it may be a gas line im just confused because first they repaired the fuel delivery, suction jet, o-ring,bayonet type and sender unit.
