Gas smell after filling the tank
I've googled this situation and get it coming up for other Mercedes but not the GLK.
When I fill to a full tank on my wife's 2011 GLK 350 2WD, I get a gas smell at the rear of the car until the fuel level drops.
Other cars seem to have rubber seal on top of the tank that fail that are accessible from under the rear seat.
Is the tank accessible on the GLK in the same way?
Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for before I attack it & whether to go from the top or underneath.
Thanks in advance for any help.

hello, im new to the forum but i have the same problem and hopefully you can help. I found the cover for replacement on the fuel pump but i dont know if it needs an o ring to seal it down. If it does, can you please help me find the correct one? Im in the process of replacing it. And just put jb weld to hold the leak for now. TIA

John, did you make any progress on this? I just got a used 2011 GLK350 with 105k miles and has the gas smell also. Where is the sender unit located and how hard is the DIY to patch the crack? I checked the VIN and looks like my vehicle was not included in the recall unfortunately. Thanks! -Kyle
i just did what nathan had done with his glk. its easy to get access to it. just below the passenger seat. the one on the driver side is the sending unit while the other side is the fuel pump. i did put jb weld but will soon change the cover. im just searching for the part number of the seal to complete it.

I popped off the rear seats and there was easy access to the fuel pump cover. There was a crack just like Nathans and gas was actually sitting on top of the cover. Is this part number the correct one to replace the fuel pump cover? 2044700438 The car has 3/4 tank of fuel and gas was still seeping out of the crack which was surprising so tomorrow I have a road trip so I can run the fuel down to near empty to stop the leak then patch.

This is an old post but my glk 350 also smells like gas after a fill up. They sell the a fuel pump module cover, is this ok or will I have to replace the whole pump? Cover is under $60 pump is well a lot more.

Gasoline smell GLK 350 2011
A friends car has the same issue where there is a gasoline smell after fueling... the fuel pump cover located under the rear passenger seat is cracked due to age. The gasoline vapours and some liquid gas is leaking though so that is what we smell...
I looked into replacing the fuel pump assembly that has the float, filter and pump and that costs ~$350 USD... I have alternate option to potentially replace the cracked cover rather than the entire fuel pump assembly. If this works I will post the part number to make it more manageable for others...
