Timing Error Codes Help

So I have been trying to diagnose my error codes after countless hours reading on a 2012 GLK but wanted some fresh perspective. Background: I bought the car used less than 4000 miles ago @116k. Documented history, I still went through the car changed the oil regardless 0W40 and brought the car up to date with various maintenance minimums. Car had no codes.

Recently CEL and the following codes came up: Generic read from MB docs online, Star to the right. 327 ODB underneath

P2004 (0521)

p0014. (0059) Incorrect Position Exhaust Right camshaft. / Position Exhaust Bank 1 deviates from spec value

p0025* (0064) Incorrect Position Exhaust Right Left /Adjustment of camshaft cylinder adjusted late Bank 2

P0022 * (0276) Incorrect position of the intake camshaft Left/. Adjustment of intake camshaft performed late Bank 2

p0012* (0272) Incorrect position of the intake camshaft Right/. Adjustment fo intake performed late Bank 1

P0019 (1203) Position of exhaust camshaft is implausible to position of crankshaft

ODB

P0025* Camshaft position -Right rear exhaust timing over retarded

P0022 * camshaft position - Left Front intake bank 2 over retarded

P0012 *intake left front bank 1 over retarded

I ordered 4 new magnetic Solenoids cleared the codes and it came back with these:

ODBP0017 Crankshaft Camshaft Position Bank 2 sensor A

P0018 Crankshaft Position Bank 2 Sensor B

P0019 Crankshaft Position Bank 1 Sensor B

Star

P0017 (1211) The position of the intake camshaft Bank 2 is implausible to the position of crankshaft

P0018 (1203) The position of the exhaust camshaft Bank 2 is implausible relative to the position of the crankshaft

P0019 (1199) The position of the exhaust camshaft Bank 1 is implausible relative to the position of the crankshaft

After a few days with the car off

P0018 (1211) Constant adjustment of intake camshaft of left bank in direction AdvancedP0017 (1199) Constant adjustment of exhaust camshaft of right bank direction advanced

P0019 (1203 ) Constant adjustment of exhaust camshaft of left bank in direction advanced

P0016 (1207) Constant adjustment of intake camshaft of right bank in direction Advanced

Cleared the codes and moved a theoretical good crankshaft position sensor (no codes on bank) sensor Bank 1 Sensor A to Bank 2 sensor B where P0019 originated. Then I got this: P0016 turned off. P0017,18,19 remain

1211 The position Intake Bank2 implausible to crankshaft

1199 The position Exhaust Bank 1 Implausible to crankshaft

1203 The position Exhaust Bank 2 implausible to crankshaft

Changed sensor to Bank2 SensorA then received:

1211 The position Intake Bank2 implausible to crankshaft

1199 The position Exhaust Bank 1 Implausible to crankshaft

1203 The position Exhaust Bank 2 implausible to crankshaft

1207 The position Intake Bank2 implausible to crankshaftBank1

And it hass not changed since. Clearing Codes comes back every time. Looking into status of accuation all my sensors seem stuck.

Y49/7 : -20 degrees

Y49/5: +36

Y49/6: -20

Y49/4: +36

I don't believe the camshaft position sensor (s) are bad since codes don't represent and the codes don't move or differ.
at 305 I see the stamps I would say are centered aside from P0019 Bank2 Sensor 2 which is slightly slightly off possibly causing the P19? also there is a cyclical squeaking from the same bank.

Haven't opened the crankcase to verify further.

Should I drop the oil again? I feel its more to do with the pulse wheel adjuster or valve.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advanced...pun intended

Sounds like bad camshaft magnets/solenoids to me. I had a similar issue and I replaced them. Problem solved.

Thank you!

But I did change them as a first step- all 4. my 0059,0064,0276,0272 all disappeared but P17,18, appeared in addition to P19. If they were bad wouldn't the codes remain?

could it be the sensors are not talking with the solenoids?

I think your VVT are causing "correlation codes" they are likely kaput... their amazing reluctor wheel gets loose and then CPS are left telling stories to ECU.

Have you noticed what's referred to as "startup rattles"... that involves loose tensioner and worned out VVT gears. Before you replace those do the leaky CPS
🤞

I think you are right.

I have heard the chatter now that these codes have surfaced and I dumped the oil the other day it has become louder.. I also have a what sounds like a squeaky tapping sound. Not like other M272 Ive heard with piston slap or sleave issue . definitely rythmic but squeaky.

Replace the cps sensors, fingers crossed, because of the stuck angle with solenoids? or just overall hail mary? Those looked to be in good shape and pulled them and switched them but not voltage tested them.

Could they make that big of a difference in communicating with the new solenoids ?

The CPS get replaced when they leak oil into the harness that given time will require an ECU swap.

To be prepared, I don't think solenoids are gonna cure VVT/Reluctor issues.

A good way to summarize expectations are that it needs an A-to-Z "timing tune-up":
  • VVT gears 4x (pins are shot!)
  • camshafts 4x (loose reluctor wheel)
  • tensioners 2x (ultimate bad guys)
  • check valves 2x (essential tiny part)
  • CPS 4x (leak oil into $8k harness)
  • (chains 2x ?) (stretched)
  • (solenoids 4x ?) (good measure &#128513

Less than that a small miracle.
🤞
