2015 GLK key issue

Whenever I insert my key, I get a message that says remove push button and insert key. The thing is my car has never had push button start, it's always been the key fob. Anyone ever run into this? The car won't start, idk why this weird message comes up, the car doesn't have keyless Go

I'd try new battery in the fob.

Search ESL malfunction. It's probably the steering lock mechanism has failed. Normally, you should hear the electronic lock disengage when you stick the key in the ignition. If you don't hear this, you have a bad lock and the car can't be started.

On youtube there are solutions, which involve opening up the steering column from underneath, removing the bad motor and replacing with a new one.

Good luck.

That happened to my wife's (a MB fanatic for almost 30 years, why I bought her the GLK 🙂 ) E320 sedan (330,000 troublefree miles!) about two years ago.

The dealership said gotta bring the E320 there to pick up the key, so they can verify the VIN. Excuse me, the car won't start because of the bad key. So they said to tow it there ... WHAT?!?! You want us to spend over $200 to tow it there for an already $350 key fob??!! So about $600 for a car key fob??

Hesitated for a day. Two days later, the service manager called and said he lives about 15 minutes away, and he'd come out after work, check the VIN, and hand over the key. Which is what happened.

We have two key fobs for the GLK 👍

I have to admit I rolled the dice on it being the key. It was really hard to diagnose because none of the symptoms were making sense except that the steering wheel wasn't locked up, so I assumed it wasn't the module in the steering column. Thankful it wasn't. I just need the car to hang on till March and then I'll be getting something fresh.
