Help!! command unit needs replaced

Hi I'm new to group was hoping to get some help because I don't wanna keep spending crazy amount of money on my car for something that it seems basic. But I knew getting a mercedes benz some of the fixings will be expensive. I currently have a 2014 glk350 mercedez going strong. I took it to the dealership today to figure out why my command head unit isn't working. One hour and $208 later they told me it needs to be replaced and it will be around 1400 and that the only certify part to replace it was in Albania?! The whole country don't have any of the same certified command unit?...Albania ughh. I really just wanna go buy a certified USED part with a guarantee from ebay and do it myself but dont have have the CODES can anyone help me with the codes pretty please?! And do I need a openport 2.0 to do it? Thanks I'm advance

I’m just asking, what code do you need, are you sure a used unit needs a code? Ask an eBay seller and try one from a place that accepts returns and has good reviews .

My understanding is that the NTG4.5 head units (in 2013 and newer GLKs) needs a code, and NTG4.0 units don't (I know the latter for a fact, having swapped out my own head unit).

There are online sources and apps that claim to be able to generate the codes, though IIRC, they all require the VIN of the donor car. I remember reading that a dealership can provide the codes if you ask nicely (probably showing a bona fide receipt for the replacement head unit).

Why does MB make it difficult to swap a stereo?

You could remove it and take it to an electronics repair shop. That might be easiest and cheapest .
