The photo in post 14 it appears to me that the wheel is turned out which is causing the link to articulate. Can tell by the orientation of the bracket for the link on the strut, its turned outwards when if the wheel were straight it would be turned in. Plus the brake hose looks stretched outwards.



When I was installing my links I tried each way and they both fit in perfectly, threaded rod lined up and went in the holes without having to move them around.

I installed my links oriented so the part at the bottom of the photo below is attached to the sway bar, the "offset" looking end is attached to the strut bracket. This is the right passenger side link.

 

How long did you have those febi links? I think before covid, the Febi Bilstein links were made in europe and were better.

 

I think I was conflating left and right with right-side-up and up-side-down.

Interesting, though, the casting is definitely not symmetrical. What the heck is this for?

 

Strengthening at some weirdly, odd, strange, unusual stress point? Hard to imagine but if not, that seems to leave it as an indication of which end goes up. Then why not have a little arrow in the casting that indicates "up" for installation or a red dot of paint to indicate the same?

This part was clearly designed by the same guy that created that small, dim light on the bottom of the rearview mirror... the obscure Chinese automotive engineer Mr. Why.

The passenger side Febi link seemed to fail 2yrs and 3 months later. I have been hearing a noise once in awhile on the drivers side that may be that link failing but its not constant or bad enough to replace at this time.

Though I probably should have replaced it months ago. I just looked and the price of the Febi links has gone up yet again. I dont want to sound like im complaining but its more im just trying to inform people. The lifetime warranty sounds great until you use it and end up spending more money in the long run. With the lifetime warranty you have to buy the same exact part at the newest list price, pay to ship the old part back and then you receive store credit for the original purchase price. To ship the old part back I used the Paypal website to buy a shipping label so it was less than $7 which isnt bad. Then theres having to install it more than once though its one of the easiest jobs to do.

Febi passenger link I originally paid $37 and now its $63. Drivers I paid $30 and now its $57.





And now I feel bad because im the one who left those 5 star reviews. I tried editing them but wont let me, maybe ill contact FCP to see if I can change them.

They are listed as "OE" when I dont think they are at all. The 1st set appeared different from the old Genuine Mercedes that were there, and now the 2nd link doesnt even look the same as the 1st one. Like they were made from different manufacturers. And the boots look caved in, I cant see much grease being installed inside them. Plus the defects in the machining of the threads. The bag says assembled in Germany from parts from Taiwan-China. At this point I feel if you are going to buy Febi brand links might as well just buy any other cheaper set you can find, quality will probably be the same.






Back to the orientation of the links I searched around and see the Meyle brand links look like round bar with ball joints at each end, no indication if they should be installed a specific way other than left and right. The Bison brand are similar.

Why not? It certainly seems like it's 100% justified in this situation.

 

Really? I guess I just assumed you'd get a refund for the price of the replacement part. Do they refund the shipping, too?

"Taiwan, province of China" - sounds like Febi has caved to the CCP...
