Apple Maps is getting an all-new design in iOS. Eddy Cue says the new Maps is "a lot more proactive." Rather like Siri and Photos already are: a lot more predictive stuff being introduced. Maps will offer nearby restaurant suggestions and its redesigned look is extending to navigation: the UI is cleaner and includes traffic information. If there's a lot of traffic ahead, Maps will proactively offer you an alternative route and note how much time it would save. It's part of Apple CarPlay, naturally, and will also channel turn-by-turn directions right into your car's instrument cluster if you want it. Maps, like Siri, is being opened up to developers, who can now make use of its extensions. That will allow you to book and pay for a restaurant, book and pay for a Uber ride, and then track your ride, all without leaving the Maps app.

Yea, I was excited to hear about these improvements coming this fall in iOS 10. I was using the CarPlay - Maps feature yesterday when I discovered I couldn't look for nearby restaurants during navigation. Bummer. Apples is trying to catch up with Google Maps (which is superior to Apple Maps in many ways).

Anyone else have issues with CarPlay glitching and not being able to connect when you connect it to the cable (the dots just go side to side like it's trying to connect, but nothing happens)? I've had this happen to me twice now (out of maybe ten times that I've used it). The only way to solve it is to pull over, turn off and restart the car.
My bluetooth connected media connection has also glitched on me more than once. When the bluetooth malfunctions I can't hear anything (though it appears to be playing on the Comand screen).
Quite buggy, I have to say, for such a high end car and one where the Germans tend to over-engineer everything at the expense of rolling out the latest technology.

No problems with either for me. Your device may also be the problem. Make sure all updates are applied. Try resetting your iPhone. Close all apps, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously until you see the apple appear. Once booted, try connecting it to Carplay and BT to see if this solves your problems.

One issue I have experienced is using the MLB app. I have a premium subscription but the only way I can access todays game to listen to a game is to grab my iPhone (plugged into the car via a cable) and login as subscriber. I need to do this every time. I think this a glitch the MLB developers need to fix.

I really find CarPlay to be a disappointment. Clunky to use and devoid of features. Maps is awful. Why can't I use Waze? Except for music and phone find it pointless. Hoping update fixes it.

I also disagree with Mercedes' decision to lock us out of their GPS system while using CarPlay. Other manufactures allow the user to switch between Apple Maps and their standard GPS system. It should be user-configurable.
BTW, I'm testing iOS 10 public beta 2 and the Maps app gets some nice new features.

Was excited for Carplay on my GLS, but after using it found that I can't adjust the equalizer settings while enabled. Makes the iPod and app integration virtually worthless for me as I hate flat audio. Cool functionality otherwise though.

Have to say the CarPlay system is growing on me. I even prefer the maps functionality which, for me, is a ton easier to load a destination into (so long as you have a quiet car to speak to Siri). I know many claim the Apple navi is poor, but I just did a 1,400 mi round trip last week and comparing the Apple route with the MB route on the way home, the Apple route saved me an hour (on an 11 hour journey).
Yeah, there's limitations on accessing all the the MB functionality when CarPlay is active but, for me, its well worth the access to limitless music, text, phone, Siri. Hopefully there will be some new apps that are put out which can further enhance the system.
Also, I find the sound quality using CarPlay (or even via bluetooth) is making me seriously question whether Sirius/XM gets renewed post-trial period. The sound quality from the XM receiver is just miserable - even with EQ. It sounds like AM radio in comparison in my GLS.

Waze just needs to develop the app. They haven't bothered since Waze is owned by Google and the reality is that Google is using Waze to make Android Auto more competitive.

I know this has nothing to do with Carplay however today I had my iPhone paired via BT while using Waze. After each Waze instruction the words 'Call Ended' appeared on the screen. Again, this happened each and every time Waze spoke.
Did anyone experience this?
