Apple CarPlay

Thanks Storm. Good guess, but looks like I do have location turned on and the setting for Maps is "while using" as opposed to "never". Not sure how I could set it to be more "on".

JoeMa, I also prefer Apple Maps to MB Nav simply due to the link to SIRI. I like the traffic density feature of the MB nav but, honestly, rarely need that functionality.
Hopefully Apple will focus some more energy on CarPlay, to me it still seems like a bit of an orphan product and nobody at Apple really knows how to troubleshoot it - or how it even works - given the vast array of cars it goes into. Like most Apple products, they seem to believe it is so intuitive they needn't provide any instructions or user guides.

The problem with iOS is that can be used ONLY on iPhones... not any other phone. But Android OS you can install on any phone: Samsung, Motorola, LG and hundreds more... so that creates a competition between companies with lot's of brains to work on it. Competition is the proven way to drive the innovation forward ... and pricing down. That's why Apple monopoly has stagnated ... and Android environment advanced way ahead... So if you want to get an advanced phone - replace it with an Android device...

For that reason I actually use Android phone, which uses Google OS... which uses Google Maps. I think it's the most accurate app for Navi or any other info including traffic etc.

The main reason for the higher Android numbers are due to the Android OS installed on more devices, "Samsung, Motorola, LG and hundreds more...."
Domination doesn't translate to better.

storm10; You are off topic. This thread is about Apple CarPlay, not iOS vs. Android. Please do not muddy up the thread.

Apple Maps is getting some new features when iOS 11 is released later this year...
"Complete with lane-change guidance and speed limit signs and warnings to let you know how fast you should be going, it will provide more of the information you want to see at a glance while getting turn-by-turn directions on the road."

You guys are killing me. I love Apple. Can't get CarPlay in the new 2018 GLC on order with a January 2018 build date because I'm not willing to give up the Driver Assistance Package with all the safety stuff. Mercedes engineers seem to be years behind.

Odd that a 2018 GLC wouldn't support CarPlay. Did you verify that with your dealer?
Here is a MB video demonstrating how to activate and use CarPlay:

Apple Carplay
Hi,
Have a 2016 E350 and would like to know if there's a firmware upgrade kit for Carplay? I understand there might be a hardware upgrade (Change USB Posts) needed as well?

I have yet to hear of such a thing but would love for the need for a USB connection to go away. Bluetooth is my preference.

Wireless CarPlay over WiFi (not Bluetooth) is available now but manufacturers need to start offering head-end support for it. Alpine just released the first after-market head unit that supports wireless CarPlay:
http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/...stall-yourself
Look for MB to support it in a year or two (maybe this fall in some new models). Likely will not be supported in the GLS until the next full redo.
