GLS550 or GLS63
We were originally looking to purchase the GL550, and by the time all options were added on, including the designo leather seats curve assist, the difference between this and the GLS63 was about 20K. I feel With this much difference may as well go for the GLS63. What does everyone feel driving a big car like this with so much power as a daily, overkill?

Make sure you actually drive the g63 and feel the mct and wet clutch drivability and determine you won't gripe about this after you buy it
The 550 with the traditional torque converter may suit you better

There's none in the country to try the GLS63, not even the 550.. Canada has almost no inventory of these cars, other than the GLS450, which is completely different.
I've had a 14' E63 and it was great fun to drive. Pulled the trigger today on the GLS63, waiting for October delivery, will post some pictures once she arrives!

'21 GLS63 AMG, '15 S63 AMG Coupé
I choose between the two and ended up with the GLS500 over 63 - mainly because I wanted as much comfort as possible and that the off-road package wasn't available for the 63. I will get it in August and hopefully I won't regret it.

I also drove both and decided the 550 was quick enough but tamer to drive. Mine will be a daily driver and the tranny on the 63 was too much "beast" for my needs - though it absolutely appeals to me on a number of more primal levels. The 550 just seemed the more luxurious drive to me. Just my .02, YMMV, but you won't regret your choice.

I ordered my GLS63 on 6/1/16 and just got word that the build will start in the first decade (ten days) of September. I'm driving a 2006 Saturn VUE V6 FWD with a 150K miles and it was originally going to be the wife's car after the GLS came in. but after driving it for a couple of weeks and noticing every little rattle and hum that it had I suggested to the wife that she would be "safer" in a new GLC300. So on July 4th we went down and bought a sweet little black GLC300 w/beige interior and sport package and parked the VUE for the time being. Now it makes the waiting just a little bit easier.

Same thing with my s63 AMG - slight difference in engine spec. 585 hp in Europe while 577 in NA. Different way to measure or actual differences in performance???

Thanks! I think the European 500 is more or less the same as the US 550 with a 455 hp and 700 Nm V8 in Europe and 449 hp and 516 lb-ft in NA - just different names. Not sure about the 400/450 though.

Same with the 63 engine. Identical cars with the same engine, just different base options...
The US uses SAE HP. Europe uses KW and for reference DIN HP. Hence the slightly different values.
