Xenon Lights

there is a user here that people go to for changing to the HID kit (xenon), i forget his username (azn optics i think?) but people go to him, especially those who are non lighting package people. If you wanna do the LED route, i doubt mercedes will touch the car as they will say if you wanted this you should paid the extra money for the LED lamps to come with it, but maybe an independent mechanic will?

Yes can definitely help you out if you want to do a simple HID conversion. Our hybrid Hylux/Morimoto kit has already been vetted out with the GLS community.

Depends... Not all projectors are equal. For sure oem xenon's will be better than a conversion due to proper focal point projectors, but there are aftermarket projectors that are better than stick oem xenon ones. Many still prescribe to S2K projectors as the bar to beat.

I'd recommend going with azn. Save yourself the time shopping as azn is providing quality components, great pricing, and they are super responsive to questions (no, I'm not affiliated). Search for my other post after I installed. It's been almost a year now and I'm still very happy. I'd say they're about 80% of what my Audi's xenon output is, which is fantastic compared to the garbage halogens. I'd say they're about 70% of my new audi's LED headlights which are wicked bright.

2017 GLS 450
After reading and researching this same subject for my 17' GLS450, I ordered my kit from AZN. They helped me with all the questions I had. Will post more soon as I get the kit and have it installed through an installer.

I think everyone knows that the morioto kit is the best option at this point but it will be really helpful for newbies to have a install video for reference (I know there are instructions listed). Taking the wheel well cover off, velcro the blasters, correct clip etc. If anyone has a video link please post it.

Front HyluxMorimoto Kit from AZN 5500
Cutoff HyluxMorimoto Kit from AZN 5500 cutoff
Just got the AZN HyluxMorimoto Kit installed on my 2017 GLS450. LOVE IT!! So happy. One thing to note, I have it parked on left side of my drive way so I am not centered in the middle for the cutoff pic.

Got Hylux Morimoto kit install on my GLS 450. Used https://www.lightwerkz.net/ in NJ to buy and install. Very happy with the results. Huge difference in visibility and they gave me 3 year warranty as well. Very helpful and professional.
Taking the wheels off made the job MUCH easier. Also, GLS has lot of space to put blaster and power within the light housing so no need to cut hole in the dust cap. Placed everything within the housing and closed the cap.

I am using it for 1 week already, checked for overheating a few times, and the headlights inside seem to be much cooler than just under-the-hood.

Checked the headlights once again.. the ballast is really hot there, cannot touch. I do not like it anymore.

Would not recommend any ballast components regardless of brand stuck inside the enclosure. All HID kits rely on natural engine department airflow for ambient cooling. Not saying it won't work fine enclosing it, but you just run a higher risk of overheating issues.

Install thread for HID kit...
I put up a pretty good install thread for AZN optics Moto/Hylux 35W kit.
Not sure how to post link, just search this forum for
2017 GLS 450 Halogen to HID Install Guide
In a nutshell, didn't have to take off wheels but turned them. Put the ballast, etc
outside the light housing on top of wheel arch with velcro. Happy as a clam
with the results year later, see how long they last....

Update 6 months later - Flickering
I wanted to ask the community if anyone is experiencing occasional flickering of headlights using Morimoto kit?
It has been 6 months with no issues but suddenly i am experiencing occasion flickering and is getting more prominent.
Not sure its a bulb or blaster issue. No errors is displayed anywhere..
