Air suspension reliability question

Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows the new air suspension/strut used from 2013 through 2019 GL/GLS (part 166-320-50-66) is better and not as trouble some as the problematic air suspension used in 2012 and earlier(part 164-320-59-13-80). Any other common issues with the 2013 model that is used through 2019 GL/GLS? I own a 2012 GL450 and had SO much trouble with the air suspension, I am hesitant because of it to buy a 2019 GLS. Thank you for your help!

The suspension on me class and GLS have been problem free for about 40k combined. My C400 needed 2 trips for repair. When there is a fault in the system it defaults to sport setting. I never had a leak or an undrivable issue. I don't think its better or worse reliability wise till well above 100k miles. The parts are not particularly expensive when compared to similar systems. Magnetorheologic shocks for example are pricier.

Good question. I had a 2012 GL350 with Air suspension issues (all covered by warranty thankfully) and traded up for a brand USED 2017 GLS450. I jave jad zero issues so far and have over 50k miles on it. So hopefully whatever changes were made are for the best. Im sure someone else with more knowledge will chime in.

There are no issues with certain years, they are just rubber parts that have a finite lifespan and will have to be replaced after a point. This is true of any air suspension system in any car, any brand. The newer ones are "less problematic" because they haven't reached the age where they need repairs as much yet.

Sounds about right to me. The system sounds complicated but there is not that much to it aside from a few sensors and the pump. Otherwise its just air shocks which by themselves are not particularly expensive. The whole thing in replacement parts is less than 2k. On my previous MDX the magnetic shocks were 1500 each!

Exactly, any other response would be incorrect.
