CPO 2017cGLS450: Help me decide

I need some help deciding which is a better buy. Looking at two different 2017 GLS450's
Both cars are black on black.
The one with the higher MSRP is asking 2k more and does not have the lighting package which i really like the look of.
The one with the lower MSRP has 7k less miles and a longer CPO warranty.

I really cannot decide which features will be missed the most.
Any input from owners would be much appreciated!!

I have the lighting package and I feel like it really changes the appearance of the front of the car for the better. In fact the front of the 2020 GLS is not too different from a 2017 GLS with the lighting package. The things you would be giving up by selecting the less expensive model are the panoramic sunroof, which I have, but would be fine without, ventilated front seats which I don't have and don't ever think about, the rear sunshades which I don't have and my son wishes we had for long trips, soft close doors which I have in another car, but not in the GLS. They are nice but I easily live without them, also would be giving up the wood steering wheel whichI don't have and don't miss. Rear air conditioning I have and really like but then I am a little weird about having it cold in the car. I am sure you would be fine without it as it seems few GLS's have that option.

My opinion for what it is worth, given the longer warranty, the far better LED lighting system and the outside appearance improvement that comes with the lighting package, I would go for the less expensive GLS.

Whatever you get, enjoy it!

Thank you!! This is exactly what I’ve been struggling with.

My current GL350 my local dealership is purchasing me out of because they accidentally blew the engine has most all these options and then some. I absolutely love the soft closed doors for the little ones but can live without the pano. I think you’re right as the lighting package changes the look of the whole front end and is worth giving up the rest.

Thank you for your input!

My wife suffers with night blindness - the LED lights on our GLS make a HUGE difference over the standard. A true Safety item to seriously consider. Good luck.

Thank you. I too have issues with night driving and hadn't even been something I'd considered as a safety feature.

If you have night driving issues, the lighting package is a "must have". Unfortunately, I don't have it and am shocked at how poor the standard lights are on our '17 GLS450.
One other consideration is the greater selection of tires in the 20" range compared to the standard 19's.

Unless there is something questionable about the service history or title (accident, lemon, etc.), the lower price, lower mileage, longer CPO warranty vehicle is a clear winner. The higher priced vehicle does not have LED. Not having the optional climate control system on the lower priced vehicle would not be a deal breaker for me.

Check the service histories of both vehicles and the title branding, if any.

Thank you! I've started the paperwork and will be picking up the lower mileage and longer warranty GLS on Wednesday. It works out much better for me too since this is the same dealership who's service center
accidentally blew my engine on my 2013 GL350 a year ago and I've had nothing but issues ever since so they are going to make it right with this purchase I feel. I'm slightly sad that I won't have some of the features my GL had like leather/pano/massage/power closing etc. but I think this is a much better buy and happy to be able to get out of the diesel and into the 450!!

Congrats on the purchase - we have an '18 GLS450 and it has been flawless. Certainly a great riding / driving large SUV.

Congratulations!!!

I too have a 2018 450 and it has been a great car1 I have to say the MB-TEX is actually pretty nice and very comfortable. I really don't mind not having leather. Helps too when my kids and the dog climb in, easy to clean and no stains. The tech in the car you are getting is awesome, that will make up for the power closing/massage/leather. Make sure you study the manual as the tech really is great, but took me awhile to learn how to use it.

Let us know how you think it compares driving wise to your GL350

Cool

Have had the car 2 days now and I am so glad I chose this one. Thank to all the advise. The lighting package in action down a dark road is truly amazing! The GLS450 feel WAY more powerful than my GL350 was.
I think I came out ahead big time with service blowing up my engine and getting me out of the diesel and into the gas! Thanks again everyone!!!

Years ago, I ordered a new diesel GL. Wasn't real excited about the power but the fuel economy was enticing since I drive quite a bit. There was a delay in production and I had to time the sale of my CL600 to get into the GL. With no daily driver I had to get a car right away. I needed a SUV due to family trips so I ended up getting a 450. Best first drive ever and I was in love with the extra HP and acceleration vs the diesel. Looking back and given the track record of the OM642, was the best decision ever.
