Adding a Hitch

So I am adding a tow package to my 14 AMG GL63 X166. I am getting quoted about 1700 from MB dealer. This is because they have to literally disassemble interior to run the wire loom. About 10 hrs oboe quoted. Here’s the question: Do you need the wiring to the brake controller when there are now Bluetooth brake controllers? Is this just a case of slap on the Curt hitch, tap the brake light lines and call it a day? Any insight appreciated.

FYI they discontinued the tow hitch for the AMG due to the transmission programming not geared towards towing. You will see if you look it up, GL63 is not on the list. I have it from OEM, but dealer suggests I remove it (in my original build).

I don't think you'll have issues, but MB did have issues with it and no longer recommends it.

The dealer is very expensive and Im sure you can find cheaper options from Curt hitch, Hidden hitch, etc. Each normally has a wiring harness to use. Curt or other web sites and see what they have. Also it depends on what you are towing, If towing around max tow weight that's one thing verses lighter trailer, boats etc. Most rv locations have a lot of experience on hitches, brake controller, ie blue tooth etc.

thats all true. ... but without exception, ALL of them indicate not useable with “active curve” option. If you have “active curve” then apparently you are out of luck. Interestingly enough, dealer is installing OEM on Monday.
