Bought 2017 GLS550

HI All,
I bought a 2017 GLS550 Yesterday and it will be delivered on Tuesday. I just realized it's missing Active Steering. I've been searching for other GLS550's and it seems like a pretty rare option for some reason. How important is it? I've done a search and it appears that the people that have it love it. Anyone move forward without it and regret not getting it?
Distronic and Designo interior are my priorities and the one I purchased has those two options.

I thought active steering was part of the Distronic option.

Looks like it is standard on the GLS63, but not the GLS550. This is will be primarily the family highway car for us (wife and two boys). It's a third car, the other two cars are an older M5 and X3. It is replacing a 2010 Acura MDX with advance package (the shocks on that car needed replacing every 40K miles or so at a rate of about $1,000 per shock). Hopefully the Mercedes will be more reliable. It seems that most reliability sites give the GLS a good rating, they give the newer MDX's a bad reliability rating.
At this point, I'm leaning towards moving forward with the car that I've agreed to purchase. I really liked the test drive and the car really felt special with the Designo interior and leather stitching on most everything. It has a black exterior and brown designo interior.

This is the package that was added on my GLS550 I believe you have to have this to get Distronic.

997 Driver Assistance Package: Distance Pilot DISTRONIC, Steering $1,375
23P Driver Assistance Package
233 DISTRONIC PLUS 3.0 with Steering Assist
237 Active Blind Spot Assist
238 Active Lane Keeping Assist
253 CMS Rear
266 DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist
268 BAS PLUS w/Cross Traffic Assist
269 BAS
271 PRE-SAFE Plus 300 CMS
513 Speed Limit Assist

The Active Curve System is the one that is rare and I wish I had.

BTW - That brown Designo interior is beautiful! Which wood trim did you get?
THANK YOU!

If you are referring to the Active Curve system, it is great. Makes it less of a floaty SUV, no roll. If you haven't drive it without the option, you may not notice. A rare option though.

Thank you for the replies, I can't buy the car at this point because of the present safety recall that's on these vehicles. Mercedes doesn't have a date when the updates will come out.

They have ETA of April 6 for the Emergency call response recall.
They will remedy this issue as 1.3MM vehicles are impacted.
Will dealer not sell you car with recall pending or did you make the call not to buy?
May be a bargaining chip to get them to reduce price...

they got a waver and delivered it Yesterday. What a beautiful car the GLS550 is. One odd thing I've noticed is that when you put the car in drive and let off the gas, the car won't go. You have to hit the gas to get the transmission to engage. Is that normal, also when you shut the car off it won't automatically kick the car into park, it gets kicked into neutral.

Congrats! Can you post pics?

Yes - The parking brake engagement does take some getting used to especially in garage.
Other thing that is a little different is that you engage a parking brake "hold" by pressing brake peddle all the way down.

Congratulations!!! Yes, please post some pictures. When you turn the car off, yes the transmission shifts into neutral, but once you open the driver's door it shifts into park.

Enjoy the new ride!

Gorgeous truck - remember, just push the silver button on the end of the shifter stalk to put it in 'park'

or open the driver's door. Just remember that turning truck off without in park works, however doesn't go into park until driver door opened so it will roll if foot off brake.

I think that is for the LED headlights not the suspension

After two weeks of ownership, the favorite features might be the messaging seats. I've always thought they must be a gimmick, but wow do they work well (also wife's favorite feature). I'm still annoyed that the car won't automatically go into park when I turn it off (our BMW's do that) or if I inadvertantly turn the ignition back on without the engine being on, I can't lock it with the go access, I have to use the key. All this might be that I'm use to the way BMW's work with keyless and need to learn the way Mercedes has implemented it.
I'm also getting more and more impressed with the infotainment system, also a learning curve, but as I play with it more and more, I learn more about what it can do. For some reason my old Ipod sounds really good on the system, but apple play and satellite radio is just OK. I've tried playing with the EQ for those to no avail.
We did a round trip road trip last week about 130 miles and I averaged about 21 mpg which was surprising. Overall fantastic car, the more I look at it and spend time with it, the more I love it.

Yes it does and it has a port for airplay and a port for my old ipod and it integrates them seperatly which is nice. I also setup an old android tablet in the back for the kids and they can play it via blootooth so it plays through the cars audio, and I can see the title of the movie they are playing on the display up front. Somehow it still keeps my phone connected via blue tooth if I want to make a phone call.
