Hard Time Finding GLS550

I’m already expecting to overpay in this current inflated used car market. I just sold my 13 Lexus LX570 for the same price I paid for it 2 years ago and I’m looking for a 2018-2019 GLS550. Must be Black exterior with Night Package preferably black or dark interior. Needs Drivers Assistance Package, Easy Entry 2nd Row,Pano Roof, Entertainment Pre-wire and Trailer Hitch (as this is valuable for resell and expensive to add after the fact). I like the Poplar Anthracite wood wheel, however the all leather steering wheel has its benefits too.

Only looking at CPO vehicles. With my criteria, I’m seeing limited options and many approaching $70,000 or above. Would I be able to get a good one high 50’s low 60’s in this market? Any leads? There are a couple out there but I would have to get shipped over 2,000 miles. A lot of these cars have been sitting for 2+ months. Any wiggle room for negation with these CPO cars?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you already know the answers to your questions. It's a seller's market, right now. Your list of "musts" is pretty extensive, so you're limited. As far as wiggle room, make an offer. What do you have to loose?

I wasn't sure if I would be replacing one of our cars this spring, but I started looking anyhow. When it came time to actually do something, most of the cars I had looked at were gone. I actually ended up buying a car I had found as a CPO from an independent dealer who bought it at auction a week earlier. I bet the MB dealer would do it differently now... Oh, and i paid an extra $2K... and didn't get CPO...

If you'd consider a 2017 I am considering selling mine. If interested reach out to me at winonabh@gmail.com.

Good luck!

Thanks for checking back in on this thread and the offer. I actually bought a 17 CPO GLS550 from a local Mercedes dealer a little over a month ago!

Ah man. I'm looking hard at a GLS 450 right now, somewhat considering the 550 although the fuel economy kills me. But some 550's they're starting sell now in the 50's. There's been a lot of price reductions this month in the GLS market, not sure if others are seeing the same. Some have gone all the way down to -10k+ from listed price. Looks like used market is softening up finally.

The 550 is a really a totally different vehicle from a 450. You would have to sit in one and drive one to experience the difference. Totally worth it for the couple MPG difference and the 550 isn’t even as bad as you think on MPG.

You must be looking at ones just out of factory warranty or non CPO GLS. CPO are pretty much same if not slightly higher than when I bought my GLS550 2 months ago.

I wouldn’t dare look at a one not under factory warranty or a non CPO even if it was $10,000 less.

Just over 49k on my 2017 550 with all options except B&O. Love the SUV, great for long trips and just want a comfortable trip with no worries. I have had one AC issue but warranty fixed, otherwise just annual services. I did purchase extended warranty for 3Y but doubt will need it.

In regard to gas mileage, trip from PA to MO in Nov this year, can't complain about 20MPG with mountains on the trip. For what the car offers I have no complaints on this MPG.

There are actually some CPO's that are mid 50's to 60's now, the ones that have been sitting around for a bit. There's a CPO 550 in Bend, OR for 56k, but I think that didn't have pano sunroof so wouldn't get that anyway. There's a 2017 550 CPO here in NYC for 65k. It's basically the same price as a loaded up 450 so i'll check it out.

@sol56 , the one in Manhattan appears to be lightly optioned. Based on its listing on MBUSA, it is missing heated steering wheel, power easy-entry on 2nd row, and driver assistance package.
Our GL450 was built without the heated steering wheel - one of those periods with parts shortage. I hated it.
Power easy-entry - since we put one of the kids in the 3rd row regularly, we need that feature. But it is a love-hate relationship - I had to do the pin mod to fit a carseat on the GL450. The GLS is a bit better, but not by much. Also it is the only feature that broke on our GL450, and not covered by CPO warranty.... so pros and cons.....

Thanks for pointing out man. Man I'll tell you, the lack of heating steering wheel, among other things, unbelievable they didn't include standard on these. Not sure if they made more things standard on the new ones but it's just asinine! Every time I find a unit I like that I think is just good enough...it doesn't have a heated steering wheel...or the lighting package...or a 4th wheel.
There’s another CPO 550 in Jersey going for 59k but mannnnn that one looks like it got issues lol. Also has been between two dealers in the past year and hasn’t been sold. So got auctioned in between, so hasn’t been driven regularly for a year aside from test drives I assume. Although it is CPO’d but who knows

I faced the same dilemma. My must haves were Black on Black, Night Package, Trailer Hitch (even though I won’t use), Pano Roof, Drivers Assistance, 2nd Row Easy Entry, and Anthracite Poplar. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. Either some had all options except one, or was way over priced and out of state and I would have to spend another $1000+ shipping which I was willing to do. Or the perfect ones had high mileage or something else was up with the vehicle. Like you said, some of these CPO cars have been sitting for months and there’s a reason. You wouldn’t believe what a dealer would pass as “CPO” nowadays.

Glad I didn’t buy out of state and would never buy a car sight unseen after my CPO search. Dealers will lie and say a car has never been smoked in, but unless you can sit in it yourself, some of these CPO cars HAVE been smoked in an it’s no way to get rid of it. Thankfully, a 17 550 popped up at a local MB dealer close to me. It had everything except for night package. I was a little bummed but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make because it was super clean 1 owner purchased from that originating dealer with only 41,000 miles and I got it for 62k. As a bonus it came with the heated steering wheel.

@John CC , I got my private in the Diamond Katana, the original A1 version.
I have not had a chance to land at Katama yet; although I’d like to someday!

that ain’t a bad deal at all, $62k with 41k miles actually sounds like a great deal. Sounds like yours is pretty loaded too. There’s a lot of dealers pricing nicely optioned up 450’s in the mid 60’s, which I think is laughable. Seeing deals like yours are exactly why it’s best to just stay patient and wait for something good to come up, as excruciating as it is! I also agree on what they pass as CPO being a much much lower bar. The CPO extended warranty is kind of a joke nowadays, exactly for that reason. The warranty on my CPO 5 series is coming up on expiration no idea what I’ll do with that one either. Wasn’t of much use.

@sol56 The white one in New Jersey - take a look at the picture with the headlight. Look at the gap between the hood and the bumper.
It may be the photo angle, but it just looks like the bumper is off.
It also doesn’t have the heated steering wheel.

Totally possible. And there’s a busted “M” button near the dsr button, not sure what that is. But I mean you’re selling that as CPO??? What in the hell lol.

I love those GL's, it was in my top two options to replace my S-Class that was totaled, unfortunately it was 6 months ago when inventories were low and I agree the "CPO" cars were a bit too worn-in. For both of your consideration, that 2017 GL 550 is looking at $3,385 for an additional 5 years / up to 100k miles, manufactures extension warranty by Freedom Warranty, covered for $275 in labor an hour, accepted at all Mercedes Benz dealers and independents in North America. For more information and a look at an example contract, you can contact me at (602) 909-9216 or tgibson@highline-autos.com (multiple term options available if interested in different length of time / miles)

I just traded in a GLS550 to RBM of Atlanta Brilliant Blue Metallic with Designo White interior. Trade in had 38K miles on it. Great vehicle overall just needed a newer vehicle.
