Recommended Service After Inspection

My 2017 GLS550 (41K) is getting service done. I've been sent a list of things they recommend doing.

This list includes:
  • Rear Brakes (Immediate)
  • Transfer Case Service (Attention Soon)
  • Front and Rear Differential Service (Attention Soon)
  • Air Filter (Attention Soon)
  • Spark Plugs (Attention Soon)
  • Transmission Service (Attention Soon)
  • Wheel Alignment (Attention Soon)
I'm going to do the brakes, for sure. I've had signs the spark plugs might need replacing, so I might do this as well. Wondering what everyones thoughts are on the rest.

I appreciate any feedback/advice.

Thanks!

  • Rear Brakes (Immediate) - easy DIY in the driveway
  • Transfer Case Service (Attention Soon) - they say soon, what is soon, 20k miles?
  • Front and Rear Differential Service (Attention Soon) same as above.
  • Air Filter (Attention Soon) - yes, do these when you do your plugs.
  • Spark Plugs (Attention Soon) - go for it
  • Transmission Service (Attention Soon) - don't think this is due for some time.
  • Wheel Alignment (Attention Soon) - no alignment to be done unless the vehicle was crashed or you have some weird wear on your tires. If so, get the crash bolt kit and take it to a Euro specialist. I would not have the dealer do any of the above work.

According to MB, "spark plugs, air filter and transmission service are due according to mercedes benz service interval guide". I'm still under my CPO warranty, so I don' t want to give them any excuse not to cover something.

Don't do anything before MB recommends on mileage/time. They can't deny your warranty if someone else or yourself does the work assuming you or the independent is competent. Lookup the recommended intervals before you agree to anything. You are paying a massive premium if your dealer does any of the items listed above and if you do them before it is time/mileage you are wasting money.
