Production time for ordered cars

I finally got to drive the GLS450 today and placed my order for one.
Dealer said they have production slots in December. Yet for some reason they are estimating March to April delivery.
I don't know why it would take 6 months to get a ordered car (3 to 4 month after the estimated production date). When I ordered my wife's BMW X3, from order date to delivery was 6.5 weeks. Last car I ordered that was built in Germany only took 3 months from order date to delivery.
Not sure why if the car is built in USA, it would take 3 or 4 months after production to get here.

Anyone else order recently and if so, what is your estimated production and delivery dates?

Did you have to pay MSRP or were you able to negotiate a discount?

580 didn’t even have a build date slot, sounded like it will be months later

I believe the 580 production is starting next month. I'm not sure what's going on with MB in terms of production/release. They announce the GLS but only 450 and 580 but not 63. Then they don't start production of 450 and 580 at the same time. There is no word on the 63 release.
The GLE production has been a disaster.

The option choices in terms of interior leather is limited with certain trims not available until later.

Pretty typical of late. The GLE 580 was announced by MBUSA in March and has been in the DOG since the beginning of April, and I know some are on order, but none have been delivered yet AFAIK. I believe the GLE 53, which was at Geneva in March, should be orderable in the US starting next month (though it's not in the DOG yet), so the GLS 53 should follow that. I expect both the GLE & GLS 63s will be 2021 models.

It is my assumption the GLS will get the same powertrain options as the GLE, no? Correct me if I'm wrong.

There has never been a GL/GLS 43 or 53. Only AMG model will be the 63.

I think your dealer is trying to guard against some of the production delays that have beset the GLE. Typically, if your car is built in December you should see it in Jan or early Feb.

Yeah I don't see that happening. A GLS53 would be really weak for an AMG vehicle of this size. Now with that said, that same engine is in the S500 in Europe, and I've always said that they should have done a GLS500 as a half step between the 450 and 580, but not calling it an (weak) AMG model.

Mercedes GL 450
I ordered a gls 450 from my dealer 3 weeks ago. My production taste was mid November with delivery 1st half in December. I went to the dealership today and fell in love with the cardinal red color. It’s not as bright has I initially thought ( fire truck/ stop sign red). I also decided that I needed a panoramic roof. My current order had the obsidian black and when I saw a similar car at the dealership, it looked boring to me. Couldn’t tell the difference between obsidian black and regular black, so I wonder what the extra cost was for.
I changed my order and added cardinal red and panoramic roof. My dealer told me my order was already locked in and any change may cause delay in production. I told him I was fine with that and just want my car with the new addition then he said he’ll get back to me.
I have decided if they try to give me a hard time about changing my order, I’ll just cancel the order and ask for a refund of my $1000 deposit then go order elsewhere.
That red is too beautiful, my wife who’s car it’s gonna be also loved it and we both hate too much flash.

Most dealer would not give you a problem. They know they can sell the original order or trade it to another dealer.

I believe they legally can’t hold the deposit anyway.

curious about the red... I was tempted. You don’t see many red cars but I think it could be good.

the panoramic sunroof is a good call IMO. It’s really nice, and a relatively modest price

I got Cardinal Red with Macchiato interior. I was able to see this exact combination in the showroom on a C Class.

I've had 3 gray cars in a row so it is time for some color. I've also had both dark and light interiors and I prefer light because it makes everything feel more open.

I also added options for MB-Tex lower dashboard and Exclusive Trim Package which should eliminate most of the plastic inside. The salesperson also added Porcelain Headliner for me and said it would go good with Macchiato.

I am seriously considering Cardinal Red as well, I really like it based on the pictures I have seen so far, but a bit concerned whether it will be "too loud". Those who have seen it in person, does it cross into the "obnoxious" territory especially for a large SUV (like some of the G-Wagon colors)?

I had the same concern also, reason I ordered the obsidian black but after seeing it in person on a gls, it looks beautiful and not loud imo. I changed my order to the cardinal red.

I ordered my 580 in early September. The rep told me that they get allocations on the 1st and 15th of the month. 4 of these days have now passed.

She just told me a few days ago that I would likely get it on Nov 1. Now she says she spoke with a MB rep and I'll get it on Nov 15.

Does anybody know how this process really works? I'm supposedly the only 580 order at this dealer.
