Is E-Active Body Control worth it?

We’ve got a GLS-450 on order. Waffling on whether to add E-Active to it.

This car will never leave the paved roads. Ever. But some reviewers are commenting that although the Air Control that’s standard provides a great ride, E-active is a whole other level and makes the GLS about as close to an S-Class as you’re ever going to get.

anyone have an opinion? $6,700 is an awful lot of money

Hey Sackboydad, have you driven any segments of the BRPkwy yet ?? You may recall we chatted last Fall as I enjoyed the drive after taking delivery of my MY18 E Cab.
Glad you started this Thread. I am considering a GLS580 and I have the very same question, so will be following ....
btw, I have moved on from the E Cab and picked up a CPO SL63 ... wow. Steve

I haven’t got around to BRparkway yet but done a lot of other driving.

I found out it’s too late to add e-active. The build is already locked. But the salesman (same one for my E450 Cab) said yes it’s nice but it really is for off road but the curve mode is nice for regular driving. He said it takes getting used to. My wife doesn’t do “takes getting used to “. She drive the GLS450 with standard air suspension and she loved it. Her car. I also think she has a mental thing of having the total go into six figures.

I've had E-ABC on my GLE for 6 months. I got it because I wanted more roll control than the standard Airmatic affords, like the Active Curve in my '12 ML. Curve Mode in the E-ABC is interesting, but not something I find myself using much. It's for relaxed driving, not sport. And it's hard to discern how much effect Road Surface Scan has. I will say the ride is plush in Comfort Mode, even with 21s. I drive in Sport mode most of the time, and Sport+ (which you don't get with regular Airmatic) when I'm driving fast on really twisty roads, which provides good roll control.

I think the upcoming Active Ride Control on the GLE 53 would be the optimum setup for street driving. It's like the old Active Curve but uses the 48 volt system for more responsiveness. I'm assuming that will be standard on the GLS 63.

I have a 2021 GLS 450 on order and it wasn't an option... It is only offered on the GLS 580.

Yes Active Ride Control being 48volt will be much more responsive than the prior X166 Active Curve. Being now it’s electronic vs hydraulic.

Having Active Curve on our 166 is the best feature as it changes the handling drastically. Can really take turns without slowing. Amazing for such a large SUV.
