Question of the Day
I cannot believe I have to ask this. Does my vehicle have internet? If it doesn't, how does it offer me all the suggestions it does in the navigation system when I begin entering an address? Or enter it by voice?
I'm thinking of getting Apple Music or whatever it is called where a person can say "play (whatever)" and it plays. Does this run off my iPhone and count against my monthly usage or does it just work because of the monthly fee?
I'm very behind on technology with my new vehicle. A lot of changes took place between 2014 and 2020. I'm pretty lost .
I've had SiriusXM for years but it's not that great really.

There are potentially three internet connections to your car.
1) Your cell phone is used for CarPlay or Android Auto and when you use apps on it, like music apps. These use data from your phone plan.
2) You can establish a separate data plan, with AT&T, to support the integrated TuneIn Radio and the wireless hot spot in the car. These are the only features that use the AT&T plan, which costs from $10/month for 1 gig to $20/month for unlimited. This is really a cell plan using a SIM integrated into the car. TuneIn provides access to most radio stations worldwide, and is the only way to get external music without hitting your cell phone plan.
3) There is always a separate internet connect ("Mercedes Me Connect") that is established automatically. This is the connection that supports features like remote start, internet updates of maps and modules, live traffic information, location discovery, remote vehicle status, search, accident alert and response, etc. It's the one you were inquiring about. It uses another cell plan and another SIM integrated into the car. You don't manage this one, like (2) above, but MB does. It's free for three years at least. It's not clear if you need to pay for it after three years or lose all these features.
PS. The voice media search allows you to say "Play ..." for anything on a USB drive. Most people store their music library on a USB and select "Media." Assuming the metadata is decent when you maintain your music library, the voice search works well.

[QUOTE=whoover;7906338]I don't have MBUX, but I'm pretty sure the connectivity setup is the same for your GLS. Assuming that's the case:

I did try to find something in the owner's manual and was not able to find it.
Does anyone know if you can fast forward when playing a podcast? My 2014 was able to do this on the screen, but I was using my iPod shuffle. My new car would not recognize the device due to its age, so I got a new phone (from an iPhone 5 ti iPhone 10R). The car plays the podcasts but I don't know how to fast forward through the commercials.
