Music Subscription Service Opinions

So I've joined the 21st century with my GLS. Had to upgrade my phone (iPhone 5) to iPhone 10. First phone I have ever had to buy (ATT used to give them away with 2 year subscription). Now I can enjoy wireless charging and listen to my podcasts in my vehicle. My previous phone only held 8 GB memory. And the battery would not hold a charge.

I've had sirrius XM radio for over 10 years. But there really isn't much I care for in the way of music. I enjoy Radio Classics which features "old" podcasts on Radio Classics (Suspense, Dragnet, etc.). I can get that via my podcasts. I like Dave Ramsey and some other things not related to music but can all get those via podcasts. I never seem to be able to find what I want in the way of music. I was thinking of subscribing to Apple Music so I could just tell it to play what I wanted to hear without having to download on my phone via wireless. I live in the country and the speed is truly awful.

So--anyone with a music subscription service see any reason to continue service with SirriusXM since my podcasts on my new phone fulfill that part of my wish list? The price is about the same. I pay $10.50 a month for sirrius xm and I think Apple Music is about the same.

Right now I'm on the free trial period for the new vehicle.

Thanks guys.

That's an interesting question. Since you have the free trial, sounds like a good opportunity to try each out.
I will say that one thing I use Sirius for is college football and basketball games, especially when I'm on the road. I'm not sure of another way to stream them.

Thank you cincy8. I agree since I am in the "free" period for sirriusXM and I will have a free trial for Apple Music that this will be an excellent time to find out my preferences.

I have had SiriusXM for about 10 years, and Apple Music from day one. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I dislike SiriusXM. Terrible choices in music, frequent repetition of songs, and endless self-promotion advertisements even though they say it’s advertising free. They do offer a couple channels that you won’t get anywhere else, but that’s about all I like. Apple Music is wonderful, but you do end up paying for data if you haven’t downloaded your songs to your iPhone.

XM has comedy, news and talk which are great for long drives.
They also have your radio classics which is fun.
Easy to use interface built into your Mercedes radio is nice as well.

Also if you got the lifetime subscription like I did years ago it ends up being free in the long run.
Awesome deal they had back in Mid 2000's when XM and Sirius where 2 separate companies XM offered lifetime subscription for $500 - I gambled on it and won.

Since I've joined the 21st century with my phone I'd just like to see what it is like to ask Apple Music or Spotify to play what I'd like. I agree with the terrible choices in music. But at times I love Sinatra and Escape music. I love Radio Classics but can get all those shows via podcasts without commercials. Dr. Laura gets more abrasive with each passing month and sometimes is just plain mean to people. So if I lose her I don't care. One thing about Sirius is if you try and cancel they make the price lower and lower. In fact, I think it will be impossible to cancel with their tactics. I am in my car quite a bit since it is an hour even to go to the grocery store.

Never knew about the lifetime subcription back then. I do love the interface in my new vehicle.
