Just got a call from my dealer that they want an extra $1,000 for the GLS 580 that I put a deposit on in mid-December because Mercedes changed the price a few days ago. I think it's completely ridiculous to ask customers to wait 5 months for delivery of a current model year vehicle and then ask for extra money while they are waiting - after you have already agreed on a price and accepted a deposit. MBUSA needs to examine the way they do business. The GLS 580 isn't that differentiated from the X7 and I can go down to a BMW dealership tomorrow and buy a vehicle configured almost exactly the way I want it off the lot. I liked the GLS 580 marginally better than the X7, that's why I ordered one. However, I'm not convinced it's worth putting up with the production delays and this BS regarding pricing in order to get one.
Yeah, this is like the first time they've ever increased the price after launch apparently, so it's definitely an odd event.
Unfortunately there's not much you can do outside of the dealer willing to give you an additional discount, since this is at the bottom of the MSRP sheets:
*Pricing is subject to change. Mercedes-Benz reserves the right to make changes without notification.

That’s simply ridiculous. I’m sorry to say but I’m increasingly glad I made the decision to save $25K and go for an X7 instead last week

Mine shows that the OFF ROAD PACKAGE which was a no fee addon back when I configured the car is now $1,900. But the base price dropped from $99,999 to $98,800 and the cost of 775 Iridium Silver Metallic has changed to $0.
So between the time I ordered it and now, mine dropped in price $75. I guess I got the price quoted when the MSRP was a placeholder...

Just a quick update on this. I contacted the Mercedes Customer Assistance Center and MB made this right by providing the dealer with an offsetting credit, so that the out-the-door price on the vehicle will be the same as we had originally agreed. They should probably give dealers more guidance on how to handle changes like this, because calling the customer to ask for another $1,000 is not a good look. However, I'm happy with the resolution and they were able to resolve the issue very quickly.
