New timeline guidance for custom orders?

I agreed to order a car in Dec19 (GLS450). I wanted the metal weave trim and tartufo seats. The order was finally accepted by Netstar in the middle of Jan20 with a production date of 3rd decade of April20. Last I spoke with the dealer, 1 week ago, there was no change in status or production date. I do have a production number. I do live in NY.

But given the health crisis, and both Germany and Alabama plants shutting down for several weeks, anyone care to shed some light/speculate when (if??) I'll actually see this car??

Thanks all, stay safe!

I am in the same boat.. my production date was 20 March but no updates due to shutdown, no VIN number and the dealer has no updates. I hope things normalize by end of April.

With the Supply Chain disrupted it will be at least 3 months before there is even a possibility of the factories coming back online.

Your existing orders will stay in place - in queue - everything on order now will stay inline until produced..

YIKES! 3 months????!!! So would I be getting a 2021 or, would I be better off getting a 2021? My Chrysler lease ended in January and I've been driving my daughters car. But she is now home from college bc of the coronavirus and has reclaimed her car. So I am car-less! Waiting until July or August for my (1st Mercedes/ "fancy car") isn't possible!!! Oh no!

Then you might consider "shopping" on the internet to find a Mercedes GLS "on-the-ground" now that will work for you - and buy-it-now !

These last few days of March will give you the biggest selection to search - and ANY dealer will be eager to work with you to get one more New Mercedes sold !

This goes for ALL Mercedes models - ALL Mercedes models production has stopped last week - except GLB in Mexico which is still in production as of today (likely to close soon for lack of parts).

There are a "good number" of GLS450's in each Region - on the GLS450's "assume" what you see listed at a dealer is "most likely" available to buy.

There are a "few" GLS580's too - but on GLS580's you uncover at a particular dealer - when you call don't get disappointed if that specific GLS580 is pre-ordered and in for a existing customer. Always call after locating a candidate - which especially these last few days of March - phone-in will give you the most rapid response from ANY dealer.

The 2020 GLS450 and GLE580 allocated dealer production slots are in-queue thru end-August - ALL these will be built as 2020's - and once factories are back on-line - ALL 2020's have to be finished BEFORE 2021 can start production.

In auto manufacturing systems it's not possible to change a existing 2020 order to a 2021.

Happy hunting !
