2020 GLS450
Just got a loaner gls without e-active body suspension.

So I bought a 2020 gls450 back in December and I opted for the e-active body suspension(best 8K spent of my life). I had to service her and to my surprise my dealer had another gls available as a loaner. I took it so I can finally compare non e-active body with e-active body. Final verdict, if you have the option of e-active body over a car without it, you HAVE to buy the car with e-active body. The overall ride quality and confidence e-active body gives is insane. Curve control allows you to pull corners and not worry about the height of the car, granted, it's not a sports car, I feel it's much safer. I live in Cali and the roads here are really bendy and go uphill downhill very often, so for example, when I'm cruising down the freeway at 75-80mph and have to go into a bend it's less jerky and WAY less body sway. Also comparing when going into potholes and smaller undulations the steering and the car doesn't bounce around, the car stays straight. Overall, e-active body has spoiled me and is most definitely worth it. On a side note, I have recently driven my friends rolls Royce cullinan and he has driven my gls and we have both come down to a final verdict, the gls ride feels arguably better then the cullinans, especially when going over speed bumps and into corners.

I hope this little review helps anyone who is deciding on buying a gls and hopefully I've convinced you to opt for the e-active body suspension package!

Nice! I’ve been wanting to hear more comparisons. It’s a big ticket item.
i hope it’s available on the GLS63.

Oh most definitely! I think it should be a standard in the 63, but you can opt for it. I've watched a few vids on the 63 all of which had the e-active body suspension. Hey, if your buying the amg you better opt those monoblock rims!

Thats probably the best comparison I could ask for. I had included it on my build order for a GLS580 (2021) but was considering removing it. But now it’s officially staying on the order, barring any parts shortages.

As for the GLS63, the full version of the “e active body control” is not available with the GLS63 (2021+) but there is a different version of it that comes standard and I think is called “AMG Active Ride Control.” It doesn’t seem to have the “curve” feature that leans into curves or the road scanning feature that identifies speed bumps and other surface changes. My guess is that the e-active body control’s curve features do not respond fast enough to make it useful for spirited driving and is the reason it is currently deactivated in all of the sport driving modes.

THANKS. been looking for such a back to back comparison. Am looking into a 2021 to replace my 2018 and a smooth ride is one of the absolute top priorities.

What size wheels do you have with your E-ABC equipped GLS?

Hey,
Np for the comparison, want people to have the best experience with their new cars.
My gls has the 21 inch rims.
The loaner gls I drove had the 20s.

Good to know! The difference in wheel size already gave the loaner an advantage for ride smoothness yet the E-ABC more than made up for it.

Unfortunately the E-ABC (and Exec Rear Seat Pkg) is now only available on the GLS580 which has a minimum wheel size of 21". The only E-ABC vehicle I can find in the Bay Area has 23" wheels, I assume that may cancel out some of the ride benefits of E-ABC. Will probably have to order...

Ahh, yeah. They recently removed e-abc from the 450s, I think those 23s look gorgeous, you might want to ask if you can test drive the car with e-abc paired with the 23s. Despite the bigger rim size, I'm sure e-abc will make up for it. Just maybe though, with those tighter corners in bay area you 21s might be a safer bet. You might be able to ask the guys there if they can swap the 23s to 21s... They'll definitely fit as the 21s are also a little thinner, they might just need more of an offset...

Tiger should have had E-ABC on the Genesis GV80 he had trying to navigate the hills and twisties of Cali at 90mph.
