Which Color and Leather to Get?
Hi Folks here,
I am considering to get a 2020 GLS 450 for family vehicle. We are going to keep the car for at least 5 years.
The local dealer has similar optioned vehicles in black, polar white, iridium silver, Mojave silver, and selenite grey in stock. Just want to ask, which color would be the easiest for maintenance and look good as well?
Also, is there any chance you could share what color of interior and leather did you get as I am very confused by MB Canada website. As for GLS, they basically offer 4 kinds of leather. The Artico, The leather, the textured leather, and the Nappa leather.
I understand that Artico is the man Made stuff, and the nappa leather is top of the line. I am really confused between leather and the textured leather.
Thank You

I have the MBTex in my 2014 E350 and now in my 2020 GLS. The stuff is a mystery on what it is, but it sure does hold up better than anything I’ve ever seen before. My 2014 still looks like new after all of these years - none of the wearing/cracking on the sides of the seat bottoms, etc. and I really can’t tell enough of a difference between the two to justify the cost and additional maintenance. But make no mistake, they’re both really really good and a personal preference.
However.... I do wish you could get the seat massagers / dynamic features with the MBTex.

As for exterior maintenance I prefer "Iridium Silver" as it always looks clean and doesn't show the dirt.
Interio, I would go with black and tint the forward windows .Black (leather of your choice) doesn't show creases and dirt. Black is also easy to clean.
Good luck.

I have Palladium silver in my ‘14 GL 550.
I have Brown leather (I think it was called Saddle brown?) (not the soft Napa) and the leather has held up well. But I continue to hear Amazing things about the MBTex.
I like the Mojave if you want to do a silver. I’m going with Black on my ‘21 GLS 580. I now have a covered carport but my ‘14 was an outdoor car and black isn’t a good choice if birds might drop on it. The MB black though is a very good black.
Brown interior would be nice with Mojave with has a brown tint. I would have bought that if it was an option then. I’ve seen R class care with a brown silver, similar color, and its very nice. My palladium silver (in between Iriduium silver and selenite grey) doesn’t tend to look dirty.
Your dealer should have samples of the paint in the dealership. Why they don’t have leather samples, I don’t know. BMW does. You can always narrow your choice and ask what other cars they have on their lot have that leather. That’s what I did to decide on Magma Grey Napa leather which isn’t an option on 21’s.

White or silver are going to be better choices for exterior paint. Polar White is the only one that is non-metallic, if that matters to you. I buy all of my cars in polar white.
MBTex really is a great material, especially for a family hauler. I only get Exclusive Nappa myself.

If you are a neat freak and like your car's paint to look good all the time, non-metallic black is probably not a good option. It is a pain to keep clean compared to any lighter color cars. It's not impossible, but just require a lot more work. Water spots, dust, swirls, paint defects, etc. all show up much easier than other colors. But a well maintained black paint is very good looking. I have my W212 and X167 both in black and they look great always, but again not easy to keep up sometimes.
