Parking/lower setting not permanent setting?

Curious - the setting you can select to make the car lower when you stop to make it easier to get in/out (it’s in the quick menu where the car wash feature is) - does yours remember it? Mine doesn’t and is a little annoying and defeats the purpose. I turn it on, it works once, and then next time we start the car, it defaults to off. Why can’t it just stay on, or maybe it’s supposed to?

Mine either. This is the same with my "easy exit", it works once only. I actually used my 2nd memory seat setting to lower the seat/raise the steering wheel. Isn't the easy exit supposed to engage automatically every time?

Okay so I've noticed this too... Thought I was crazy. Feels like a bug to me, so now I have to make a point to study the use manual to confirm. Feels like the "answer" might be easy to misinterpret like the auto start stop off button that allows the vehicle to run at idle when the driver exits.

Manual (pg 233 in min3) is silent on this topic. It explains how to set the Select Lower When Getting In to On but doesn't mention that it is one time or permanent setting. Of course, it makes sense for it to be permanent but many or most of the other settings in this section on Airmatic are one time settings. The one hint that I haven't specifically tested is that is says the engine should be running and the vehicle is moving at speeds less than 20 mph. I think I have only done this when the vehicle was stationary. I'll have to try it when moving to see if it sticks.

I agree it should stay set until it is manually changed by the driver. The only reason that I can think of for it to be implemented this way is to prevent the car from going up and down as you drive through stop and go traffic or stop lights, but if so, let the driver determine if that's annoying and whether to keep it on or not. I had a Lexus that the lowering setting stayed on but you had to wait for the car to come to a stop and placed in park, then you had to sit there and wait for it to lower. Opening the door stopped the process. Not ideal either.

I played with this a bit today. If you are rolling in a parking lot or stopped at a light and turn it on, it turns itself off once you accelerate and exceed 20 mph. So the only way it will work is to turn it on as you are pulling to a stop and then wait for it to lower before getting out. What I didn’t do is trying lowering it on exit and then checking to see if it remains lowered for entry. But it is definitely designed to work this way, not a bug.

Yeah I think this is a miss by Mercedes. It should be a permanent on or off feature unless I’m off road mode. But I suspect the lawyers got their way with the “what if” scenario of a hot car automatically lowering into something possibly flammable, like a mound of dry tree leaves or something like that.

From the warnings I read in the manual, they seem more worried about something or someone getting caught between the tire and fender as the vehicle lowers. Reaction time would have to be pretty bad for that to happen because it takes a while to lower.

How much does it lower by in access mode guys?

Ive a GLS63 AMG X166 and started thinking about an X167 GLS thinking they look super cool sitting lower than the X166 model and less wheel arch gap etc but this probably sounds like they're in access mode, the X166 doesn't have that ofcourse.

Owned many RR’s and its an auto feature on them, automatically drops to access as you park without you even noticing it did it.

Thanks

The GLS lowers in either Sport or Sport+ driving modes. In Sport it is 15mm lower. In Sport 1+ it is 25mm lower (~ an inch). There is also an Individual driving mode setting where you can configure the GLS to run in either of the reduced height levels. These driving modes are the only way I know of where the GLS will remain low while driving. The "lower when getting in" setting only works at speeds less than 20 mph. As soon as you accelerate beyond 20 mph, it automatically goes off, so I doubt that it was you've seen. There is also someone selling a lowering device for the X167 GLS on eBay that will also lower the vehicle even more than 1" I believe but no reports yet on it that I've seen.

This was the picture that had me thinking the X167 rides lower, admittedly it has the 23’s on it but enlarged image measurements suggest about 40mm difference between that one and my own in S+ when measuring from top of rim to wheel arch so even taking 20mm off for the larger wheel and tyre its still sat lower, maybe thats the access mode that I assume will work when the vehicle isnt running?

Looks so well proportioned with the 23’s and sat at that height compared to the X166, the arch gap much more pleasing on the eye, personal preference ofcourse

Thanks

Carl

@carlosamg50 Here are pix of my 580 with 21” wheels in normal/comfort and sport+ height. Hope this helps. It isn’t dramatic but you can easily see the different especially up front with the exposed strut inside the wheel well.

Here’s my X166 GLS63 on 22’s in S+, looks like the X167 rides lower then?

For what it's worth, my 2023 GLS450 has the exact same issue, so Mercedes hasn't changed this yet. Unless, if someone has discovered a way to keep it on, that would be great. The setting is switched off each time I turn the vehicle on again.

Same for me. Might as well just use the physical suspension adjustment switch on exit since I don't have to dig through menus!
