Winter Wheels/Tires Setup for my GLS 580 Complete! Now Need a Set of Spacers!

Hi Everyone,

Like many of you, I have the 23" wheels with the summer performance Pirelli tires that came on the car. They look great, but provide no options for winter tires.

After a long search I finally found myself a set of 22" wheels and tires for my winter setup on my GLS 580! The wheels are AMG replicas.....I went with a 22" x 10" with a 38mm offset all around. I decided on a square setup to increase my options for tires, and I went with the CONTINENTAL VIKINGCONTACT 7 XL in 285/45R-22 (front and rear). The wheels and tires fit very well and generally look good....though not as good as my 23" setup, but for the winter they are fine.

The new front wheels/tires look good, and the 38mm offset actually pushes the wheels/tires out slightly more than the stock 23" wheels/tires. It's a nice flush look in the front. The new rears are a bit tucked in and I would like to push them out slightly with 15mm spacers, but I can't seem to find any spacers for the GLS.

Do you guys know where I can get a set of spacers for the GLS? Nobody seems to make any that are specific to the X167 GLS. Can I use any 5x112 bolt pattern 67mm hub centric spacers? I know I will need longer 15mm x 1.25mm thread bolts with the spacers....likely something around 43-45mm in length.

Please let me know....and sorry for the bad photo. It's been snowing here in CT and the roads are still wet. I just had the new 22" wheels mounted today and didn't have time to get the car washed or take a proper photo.

Polar, can you tell me where you got your replica wheels? I am debating a few options with 22x9” wheels.

I would prefer to run a square setup so I can rotate wheels every season.

22x9 wheel with +38 offset if used as a square setup will tuck 23mm in the back and 6mm in the front while giving me extra clearance medically towards the suspension. I could use 20mm spacers in the rear to push the wheels out more which is an extra $100 and added pain in the butt.

22x9 wheel with +27 offset will tuck 12mm in the rear and poke 5mm in the front.

22x10.5 wheel with +40 offset will poke 11mm more in front and have 1-2mm LESS clearance medially towards suspension. The rears will tuck 6mm.

Currently leaning towards the 22x9 +38 and getting rear spacers. I am not sure how any poke in the front will affect clearance of the front fenders.

Thanks,
X

I bought my 22” x 10” wheels from here:http://www.replacementcarwheels.com/

Ask for Sean and tell him that Tom from Greenwich, CT referred you. He’s very helpful and an honest seller.

I find the 22” x 10” wheels to be a very good fitment. No clearance issues at all with the brakes on the 580. The front wheels sit nice and flush with the body. I think they push out slightly more than the stock 23” setup. The rears are tucked in a bit and I think a 15mm spacer would make them look great.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks! Did you get tires and TPMS sensors from them too or was that a separate transaction? Hoping for a one stop shop. They arrive mountebank balanced, ready to install.

thx

I bought the TPMS from them and the tires from Tire Rack. Took everything to my local shop to have them mounted, balanced and put onto the car. Shipping the wheels and tires already mounted was prohibitively expensive according to what Sean said, so I purchased the tires separately.

Deciced on a different wheel and tire package. Got free shipping but will have to have them mounte and balanced.

Check out these spacers. https://4wheelspacers.com/shop/merce...seat-bolt-kit/

Let’s see which wheels you bought!

Thanks for the link for the spacers. I actually came across that site as well. Unfortunately they don’t provide the full detailed specs of the spacers and bolts. I’m not 100% certain that the spacers will have 15mm holes (vs the standard MB 14mm) and I’m not certain that the wheel bolts will be 15x1.25mm. They also don’t specify the length of the bolts. They need to be at least 43mm.

It’s impossible to find 15x1.25mm x 43mm bolts!

If you are able to confirm the specs of the spacers, please let me know.

Thanks!

Sorry to revive, but I went with these wheels as well. I have the 22" factory wheels, but don't want to swap out tires all the time, it's quite annoying. What size spacers did you end up going for?

I went with 15mm spacers in the rear only. They are the perfect size and actually make the car look like it has a staggered fitment.

Thanks. I have a 24, so I'm wondering if the rear is a bit wider or not and if it would require a bigger spacer.

Factory 22"? You won't...The rear rim is 11.5" wide. If you purchased the 10" replicas, then there are options.

Winter Set Up - 2022 GLS63

New member here and I have read the posts on winter set up for the GLS. I am trying to get mine dialed in and wanted to see if I could get some help and perspective on my specific model and set up.

I am thinking about the Asanti Black Label ABL-37 22 X 9 with a +38mm offset on all four corners along with…

4X Yokohama Ice Guards H075 - 285/45R22 114T XL

Not overly concerned about appearance in upper Wisconsin/Michigan winters so if there is a little tuck in or show on the quarter panels, I can live with it! Driveablity and safety are the priority.

Would greatly appreciate thoughts! Thanks in advance!

I have a 2024 GLS580 with stock 22" wheels.
Front: tire 285/45/22, wheel 22" x 9.5" offset 45
Rear: tire 325/40/22, wheel 22" x 11.5" offset 47
I'm currently debating among three solutions for winter setup:

1. Use the MO winter tires from MB dealerships. I got multiple quotes for 22" winter tires with OE setup, which is $3.3k - $3.5k. These tires are only available from MB dealerships.

2. Get 22" OEM rim (22" x 9.5"?) for the rear. There are more options for 285/45/22. The issue is will this void the warranty or anything?

3. Go with OE 21" setting. 275/45/21 front and 315/40/21 rear (as @DJBenzGLS ). This solution has much much more tire options. The issue is that the 21" setting actually has a smaller circumference hence slightly higher revs per miles comparing to the OE 22" setup. This will make the speedometer and odometer inaccurate. How do you compensate for that issue or just live with it?

We have 23" OEM and went with custom 22" x 9.5" rims to provide the staggered look without a spacer. They are more costly than a aftermarket square set, but look great and provide more piece of mind vs using spacers. There are many options for 22" AS and it wouldn't result in any odometer discrepancies (however the difference would be small with a 21" square setup). Read your wheel and tire coverage if you bought one. Dealers can sell warranties that are not from MB and the terms can be different. For us, it did not void anything.

Personally, we were not interested in the winter wheel option from MB due to the cost, requirement to swap the rubber each season, and our winters are just bad enough that we cannot run with summers and not bad enough for winter tires. Its a quick job at home to swap out the wheels and put the other set away. We used Costco for the tire and TPMS. As others have mentioned, shipping for the tire + wheel packages is usually outrageous.

It seems 22" x 9", 22" x 9.5", 22" x 10" square settings should all work with 285/45/R22. I'll probably just live with the tuck-in rear wheels without spacer.

@Dynamicpulse Mind sharing where you get the 22" x 9.5" rims? What's the offset on them?

These are the wheels https://saviniwheels.com/wheels/sv-f...ble-dark-tint/. We purchased through Carid, but I would not recommend using them. The communication from Carid was terrible. We also paid them for new lugs, but they kept sending us the wrong ones. After a few months of trying to get them to send us the right lugs we gave up and found them ourselves. We are very happy with the wheels, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the brand again, but I would go through a different authorized reseller.

The fronts came in with 40 offset and the rears at 18. We told them we wanted the look of a staggered set without a spacer and Savini determined the offset based on the vehicle specs they had.

I have 2023 GLS 600 with 23" OEM + summer tires and looked through every tires I could for all season or snow tires. Here is the info I've found.

1. Yes there is a 23" all season tires for GLS(285/40/23 + 325/35/23). Brand is called Lexani and they make all season tires that would fit for GLS w/23" wheels. BUT according to a tire shop guy I talked to, he wouldn't recommend those due to their less than ideal track record.
2. I could go to 22" w/ used OEM 22" wheels and winter tires.

Curious what are the lug issue? I went to Tire rack for MSW Type 51, And they basically don't know what the wheel seat type (acorn or ball), and in their system, they cannot confirm their lug system can work with M15x1.25. I may be on my own to find the proper lug and nuts and curious where can I find them. Especially i don't see any options for a ball seat.

Carid kept sending M14 lugs with the wrong thread. We found appropriate lugs from Coyote Accessories. We have about 4000 miles, mostly highway, on the setup without issue.
