Drove to work this morning without issue. Walk out to my brand new SUV to go home, press the start button and the engine fails to start. I get this error message...Stop Vehicle, See Operators Manual (and a picture of a battery).
I try cycling the ignition, locking car and letting it go back to sleep, open and close hood, rear hatch, praying...nothing. All electronics work, radio, dash, Bluetooth but engine doesn’t start.
I called my sales guy since the car is 2 weeks old and thankfully he wasn’t busy and dropped everything to drive to my workplace with a loaner car. He got into my car, tried to start it and goes crap, I bet it is the 48V Lithium battery.
I’m like WTF! 48V battery? 300 miles and 2 weeks...hope I didn’t make a huge mistake. He brought me back to the dealership and got me into a loaner quickly which was nice. They are having the truck towed to the dealership and I should know more tomorrow. Really hoping they have a good answer for me rather than, who knows, the battery just died..
I saw at least a few complaints about 48V battery errors/warnings and I even had a bunch myself when it was new for the first week or 2. A couple people had non start conditions although the details seem a little different from yours. Best I can remember it was just a software update to resolve and in my case that update was OTA.
Update: The car was flat bedded to the dealer last Monday evening. They had a diagnosis Tuesday. The 48V battery was bad and needed to be replaced. They originally mentioned swapping out a battery from a vehicle on the lot, but after some research, only another 63 vehicle with EQ Boost will use the same battery and they didn’t have one on the lot (or didn’t have one they WANTED to swap). They told me the batteries were being shipped from Germany on or about 2/9. The anticipated time to get to the US was 7-14 day.
I was pretty unhappy I might be without my brand new truck for around a month or possibly longer. The dealership GM talked with me and told me they would go to bat for me with Mercedes CAC and asked what “financial compensation” I was expecting. I honestly didn’t know, but I mentioned an extended warranty. He told me he would be in contact after he knew more.
I decided to not bug them until they called me back just to see their response time. I didn’t hear anything for a few days but I did get a message on the Mercedes Me app Friday saying the truck was unlocked and the hood was open. I found it odd if they were waiting on batteries from Germany for them to be messing with the truck. Monday afternoon, the service advisor called and told me the truck was ready to be picked up...I was confused. Say what? You told me late February before the battery arrives. Apparently, they got in a GLE63 earlier in the week and swapped the battery out and into my truck. They tested it out and had no issues so I was all set.
Picked up the truck this afternoon and had no issues. It started right up.
Hopefully, I won’t have any more 48V issues and my wife’s 580 won’t have any issues. Overall, I am pretty happy they got me taken care of as quickly as they did.

Hi,
Have you had any same issues since the battery 48V replacement?
