1000 mile review.

Still getting comfortable with all the tech but almost fully "fluent". No issues yet what so ever🤞. This is the best vehicle we have owned ever. I even like it better than my beloved E43! The mix of comfort, handling prowess and driving confidence that the E active suspension provides is simply unparalleled, its no hype, it is a transformative system. Add to that comfortable accommodations for 7 adults, sports car acceleration, good looks, fully functional bleeding edge tech, superb off road prowess and 7700 pound towing you end up with a vehicle that not only fully justifies its 120k plus price but makes it seem like a bargain!
LOVE IT.

Thanks for the report! I assume it's a 63?

The suspension is optional for all GLS except the 63 and 600. I ordered in July, delivery took 6 mths. Note that was peak pandemic time so it may be less now. Though the 450 may seem the best deal the fact is that if you want your van with extras, they all cost more on the 450. In addition the 580 includes many of them already. A loaded 450 costs well over 100k.

The reason I asked, is that E-ABC has seen on-again, off-again status in all configurations. My first GLE450 (July build) had E-ABC, but then it was confined to GLS and E/S 580, then not on any 580. Now, I'm not sure. It seems to be spotty.
I think the E-ABC makes the car exceptional. I'm taking a chance that ARC Active Ride Control on the AMG's will provide the same satisfaction (except for "lean") as E-ABC. It has the active roll bars, which as you say are standard on the 63. I haven't driven an ARC, and my order goes into production this week. I'm hoping I am as satisfied as you!

Not sure how you got over 100K, on MBUSA, a fully optioned 450 is about 97K, while a similarly optioned 580 is about 112K (without options for only the 580). Other than E-Active, I just thought 15K for the larger engine was really not worth it, given as well many reviewers thinking the same. However, I do wish the Night Package was available for the 450. I'm supposed to take delivery of my (well optioned) 450 in early March, ordered early December. But I would consider a used 2020 580 with E-Active with pricing perhaps close to my 2021 450, but those are certainly hard to find now.

I didn't want to bore anyone by repeating what everyone else on the web has said. The only thing negative about the vehicle is that is averaging about 16mpg which is 1 mpg lower than the previous 550. However its bitterly cold here and its on winter tires.

That is because on the website they have eliminated the E active body control. On the 450 it was more than 7k. In fact almost all options that apply to the 450 AND the 580 are more expensive in the 450. Another thing that I saw missing on the 450 site is the offroad package. I dont know why those options dont show up anymore.

GLS 400d
E active body control

Not available to us peasants in the UK. We have the 400d diesel and the AMG 63 if you’re still a boy racer.
Goes fast enough with the diesel motor and loads or torque.
Excellent ride with the standard air suspension in my opinion.

MB have just announced they are removing E-ABC as an option on the GLE due to few folks ticking that expensive box.
Such great tech. I hope they keep it on the GLS and add it to the G.

They should make it standard on the 580.

I don’t think 120k gls and bargain belong together.
