Picking up GLS today

Excited to pick up our new fully loaded GLS but I must say some of the comments about the tech failing or other issues worry me. How will I know if my car has problems from the get go? Anything specific to do this afternoon?

Don't be too worried. There are various issues reported here and there, but the majority of cars are delivered trouble-free. Enjoy the car!

1. Drive the car more than just a quick trip home. Enjoy the ride, as I have.
2. Make sure to get the Mercedes Me app up and running so you can use remote start, door lock, monitoring, etc. I think the setup is supposed to be part of the delivery experience. But as I am on my 4th car, I just tell the salesperson I am good and do it on my own.
3. Drive some more and enjoy the ride.

Read the owners manual
Picked up my GLE 3 weeks ago and I still go over the owners manual and learn something new every time I go over it again.
Drive and enjoy your GLS congratulations

Definitely spend some time with the owners manual, either the bound copy, or the MBUX search function, which is well-designed.
I attributed some faults to the car, but it turned out that my problems were Operator Error. A lot of problems reported here come down to wrong settings. There are LOTS of settings, and a Learning Curve.

Good luck and hopefully you have a good dealership. They seem perfectly content to say they can’t reproduce things even with videos.

Ha! Ok, so far the car is great. Definitely need some time with all the options but it drives great. One thing that is a bit unexpected compared to my prior car is the heads-up-display. The GLS heads-up-display is HUGE and there does not seem to be complete customization with the three fields. Does anyone else have this option and are they happy with it? I also need to figure out how to customize the individual driving settings (e.g., steering, suspension, etc.). Does anyone have a preferred setting?

Congrats! Hope you are enjoying it. I haven't settled on a specific setting yet - I'm still playing with them but will share when I do.

The heads-up display can be customized up to a certain point.
My wife hated it at first but like it a lot now.
It stays permanently on when I drive.

Try to understand all the options on the dash screens while parked. THERE ARE A LOT!
DO NOT fiddle around with the electronic dash while driving.
Keep your eyes on the road.
Congratulations.

+1! Too many adjustments for a driver to make while driving.

2020 GLS450 (wife) / 2024 Ford Bronco (mine) / 2014 VW Tiquan (son)
When I’m driving the car (it’s my wife’s primarily) I have the individual driver setting option set to (eco engine / normal steering / sport suspension). And then I turn off the start/stop option via the button adjacent to the start button.

This setting makes ours buttery smooth to operate, yet has plenty of grunt to get moving if needed. Usually eco mode sucks in cars. But with the 48v influence now, eco is actually quite enjoyable to live with. I like the sport suspension setting because it lowers down the car. I like light steering as well (comfort).

4000 miles on the odometer. Our 580 has had zero issues. It has been perfect in every dimension. Just arrived from a family vacation where I drove a KIA minivan for 2 weeks, when I got back I had to drive 4 hours back home on the 580. It was like I had ascended to heaven!
