6 month old 2020 GLS 450...windshield backordered!!?

I've had my car 6 months. A tiny rock hit the windshield while driving on the highway and cracked it. I called my dealer and the windshield is over $2500 to replace (OEM) but its on BACKORDER...no time estimate given! I have glass coverage on my insurance, so I'm not "paying" for the replacement...but when can it be replaced? I've got the acoustic pkg, HUD, magic control, other options...
Last 8 of my VIN is LA284536.

Anyone have better insight?

That's interesting info. The Acoustic Package has a significantly different windshield, with coatings etc. Not surprised that it would be back-ordered in this COVID time.

What is probably good news, is that since it's a "special" windshield, few of those aftermarket manufacturers of cheap replacement windshields will have engineered a replacement, so your insurance company won't make you settle for the cheap one and make you pay the difference to a factory windshield.

No, insurance can't insist that you accept a cheap windshield, but they may only pay for a cheap one - if available - and force you to pay the difference. And it's unlikely that an Acoustic Package windshield will become available any time soon. Maybe never. That's a good thing. (except for the wait)

A rock hit the windshield of my one-month-old GLS450 last week. It made a cone-shaped crack about the size of a dime on the passenger side of the windshield. I'm upset about this damage to my brand new GLS, but the chip is too small to justify a windshield replacement. I'm going to try a resin repair by the same local company that my dealer uses for chip repairs.

Depending on the size and placement of the crack on your windshield, you may want to try repairing it. At the very least, the repair will prevent further cracking while you wait for the replacement windshield.

Not surprising nor unusual at all. Back when the GLE 1st came out, I had gotten a GLE350 in January 2016. Got a significant crack in May of 2016 and the windshield needed to be replaced. Insurance company had no problem paying for OE glass but there was none available yet (glass is fully covered here in Mass). We were told that all of the ones being produced were only for new vehicles and nothing in the pipeline yet for replacement parts. It took about 2.5 months. Nice part was that they paid for a Chevy Tahoe rental the whole time.

Okay, you have a small rock chip? It's being replaced for no charge? It's going to take 6 months to get a new piece of glass. Do you realize what is going on in the world right now?
