Removing 2nd row headrest

Dealership just told me it’s not possible to remove the headrest from the 2nd row. Our child’s booster seat (with a back) will not fit with the headrest in. Any thoughts? Do we need to take car somewhere else to have it removed?

It might be cheaper to get a seat that fits the seat better than to find someone to try and take the headrest off (assuming its not possible by yourself)

You are asking the question on the wrong forum - better luck if you try the 166 threads. Also have you tried moving the headrest all the way up?

Hi Ana,

Welcome to MBWorld.

I see no reason not to believe your dealer. If they say it is not possible to remove the headrest, why would another mechanic "somewhere else" have a different opinion?
Now granted, some dealers do not know everything about the car, but for such a basic issue (like headrests), I think I would just believe the dealer.
If you wanted to bring your car for a second opinion and force the removal of those headrests, then that is your choice.

Good luck.

The headrests can be removed. In the case of most MBs it requires the plastic seat back panel to be removed, and disengaging the power lift feature (if equipped) or releasing any other latching mechanism. There are WIS procedures, videos on YouTube and a thread or two posted on this site. For a new vehicle it would be a non-standard procedure, and I can see that dealers wouldn't want to do this. It likely voids the warranty if there is not an MB-sanctioned accessory that requires headrest removal (entertainment screen, accessory coat hanger, etc.).
