Winter Wheels

What have people done for Winter Tire/Wheels on the 22" setup with the GLS580? Do 20" wheels fit the larger brakes on the 580 vs the 450?

The Pirelli doesn't perform well and 22" wheels for Winter defeat the purpose as they are too wide to handle anything but very light conditions. Additionally the last thing you want to do is mount and dismount tires on 22" wheels more often than necessary so I am looking for 20" or 21" dedicated snows and will use the Vredestein Wintrac Pro tire. Just need to confirm if a 20" wheel will fit with the GLS580 as the front brakes are larger than the GLS450 and the GLS580 does not offer a 20" wheel. My dealer can't seem to find the answer so hoping someone here has tried it. If not, then I have to pitch up for 21" and that gets too big again from the best Winter performance.

Oregon, where 2” of snow is Snowpocalypse. Ice is more of a concern. I have many great years on the Winter Scorpions.

2020 GLS580
I have a GLS580 I ordered with 22" wheels.

I run Blizzak snow tires size 275/50R20 on 20" aftermarket rims in the winter no issue. Dry and wet driving performance is abysmal compared to the stock summer tires but it definitely does a lot better than the Scorpions in snow/ice conditions.

This is exactly what I was looking for, the 20" will fit. Thank you. Blizzaks are okay tires but you are right their performance in dry and wet is not good compared to the comp. Next time you have to buy Winters give the Vredestein Wintrac Pros a try, they do great in the Winter stuff but still perform at a higher performance level in dry/wet. Now, moving away from a staggered 22" setup with UHPs it will be less crisp but these tires are really amazing. I run 22" UHP Summers on my Cayenne and switch to 20" Wintracs for 5 months out of the year and I can tell you it is by far the best winter product I have ever driven on (I have experience with Conti, Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli as well as Toyo and some lesser known Winter brands).

So I looked at the winter set today and realized that I actually have 19" wheels for the winters so the 20s will definitely fit no problem.

But this also means that I cannot try the Vredestein Wintrac on my GLS. I will have to try it on my other car when the time comes to order another winter set. I appreciate the recommendation. Thank you.
