2022 GLS 450 w/ AMG Night (22" AMG Wheel)
Question on wheels

Hello.
I just picked up my GLS2022 GLS with AMG Night package. It came with 22" AMG multispoke wheels and Conti Premium Contact 6 Summers and slotted rotors.

This is what i have on my car right now:

front tire: 285/45ZR22
front wheel : 9.5Jx22 ET45

rear tire: 325/40ZR22
rear wheel: 11.5Jx22 ET47

I am looking for a winter wheel/tire setup but this is the first time i am shopping for a specific winter set for my car.. So i have a few questions that i hope someone can help clarify for me.

Would this setup work for the 2022 GLS 450 with a square setup?

Tire: Either VREDESTEIN WINTRAC PRO 285/40R22 OR CONTINENTAL VIKINGCONTACT 7 285/45R22
Wheel: Mandrus Estate
22x9.5 5x112 +20mm Matte Black Wheel Rim 22" Inch
- (0% speedo error for front, and 0.43% in rear)
- VIKINGCONTACT Tires
OR: Mandrus Estate
22x9.5 5x112 +40mm Matte Black Wheel Rim 22" Inch
- (0% speedo error for front, and 0.43% in rear)
- VIKINGCONTACT Tires
OR Mandrus Estate
22x10 5x112 +46mm Matte Black Wheel Rim 22" Inch
- (4.7% speedo error)
-
VREDESTEIN WINTRAC PRO 285/40R22
OR Mandrus Estate
22x10 5x112 +30mm Matte Black Wheel Rim 22" Inch (4.7% speedo error)
- (4.7% speedo error)
-
VREDESTEIN WINTRAC PRO 285/40R22

Here is my understanding after googling and learning more about tires/rims. If i get a 9.5" wide wheel, i should get the 285/45 one. If i get the 10" wide wheel, i should get the 285/40 due to the recommended tire width and tire series chart. (https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/c...rim-size-chart)

All these rims and tires *should* fit and clear the brakes/calipers/rotors, the only decision factor is how many mm it will poke out or tuck in - which is just a cosmetic issue and not mechanical/performance. Is this right? I didnt understand why people user a spacer, is it just for cosmetic issue so it doesnt poke in that much?

Thanks.

I am in NYC and my GLB came with the Conti 6 Summers also. I got Mandrus Estate wheels for winter tires for my GLB after seeing posts with the Mandrus wheels. Mandrus produces MB aftermarket wheels. Mine were produced in Malaysia, shipped from California by wheelpros. When I ordered the wheels, Mandrus website was offline to see their dealers. I found out later that Mandrus is owned by wheelpros. They both have the wheel options for your model and their recommended dealers to install the wheels. They have a good selection of wheels.

I chose wheels close to MB offset which is installed 9mm to outside of OEM. I got my Michelin PA 5 winter tires from Costco, but they didn't want to install them as they install their own aftermarket wheels and didn't have the TPMS for MB. So I went to my local MB repair shop for installation. I bought the MB caps from ebay and they fit to Mandrus wheels. My 3 OEM hub caps were already lost in NYC roads in 3 months of driving... Also Michelins PA5's are less harsher than Conti 6 summer tires...

Also MB sells their own winter wheel set up....

GLB 35 OEM summer tires are 255/35R21 (wheels 21x8.5" rims ET51) and winter tires are 255/40R20 (wheel 20x8.5" rims ET42).

i have a hardtime understanding what the offset should be for my GLS450. How do i go about finding out what it should be? My wheels are 10" wide in the front, and 11" wide at the rear... if i just simply get 4 of the same wheel of same size and 4 winter tires of same size - how do i know what offset it should be for the rear?

thanks and apols for noob question.

thanks

I ordered thru ebay from shopcwo (custom wheel outlet). Mandrus has local dealers listed in their website. If you order thru them, they will install it for you. It might be easier that way...

You can find the offset values inside your wheels. I used wheelsize.com to find it. 2022 GLS450 is not listed, but 2021 GLS450 shows:
https://www.wheel-size.com/size/merc...matic-eudm-362

I used OEM tire and wheel sizes closest to OEM offset. It was easier with same size wheel/tire. You can check with one of the dealers listed in Mandrus website.

Also there are tire/wheel calculators to check the new size of tire and wheels with the offsets:
https://www.willtheyfit.com/

I am planning on doing same size for front/rear wheel/tire rather than staggering - just for the purpose of tire rotation for better treadwear..etc.. the "offset" seems to be where the edge of wheel to the nuts - and I just dont quite understand why this offset matter that much - is it just for the looks that it will 'pop out' a little bit when looking from teh side of car?

Go for the Vredestein Wintrac Pros. The Pirelli winters are not good and the Vredesteins are the best Winter I have ever driven on (I have driven them all, MI, BS, GY, CT, Toyo, Cooper, etc).

As for your question on size, yes the 21" will fit with the AMG packaged GLS450.

Mandrus does not have an exact fitment for the vehicle yet but some may fit with spacers, I believe someone on here put them on their GLS63 and it works great. I went with the Vossen HF3 in 21" and Vredesteins.

Wheelsize shows 20" same wheel set up over there but also it has 2 different offset values for GLS. I don't know which one is yours and if 20" wheel fit to yours. Mine has 9mm pop out. It looks nicer, but also it splashes more water/mud to the front doors and backside. Inside offset has more problems hitting the struts, etc.

thanks for the links.

from wheel-size.com, my 22" wheel / tire is

front tire: 285/45ZR22
front wheel : 9.5Jx22 ET45

rear tire: 325/40ZR22
rear wheel: 11.5Jx22 ET47

So it means my Front tier is 9.5" wide with a 45mm offset, while my rear tire is 11.5" wide with a 47mm offset.

Tire rack suggested a 42" mm offset wheels when i pick the wheel+tire combo. Would this post a problem on the rear being 42mm vs 47mm?

The offset looks fine esp you are reducing the width of the wheels. However suggested 275/45R21 tires will give you -18.95mm height reduction with 4.85% speed error. It is recommended to stay below 3%...

Thank you for the education... Lol.

I think i finally understand how this works. I also updated my original post to reflect my latest questions.

So This is my current setup:
front tire: 285/45ZR22
front wheel : 9.5Jx22 ET45

rear tire: 325/40ZR22
rear wheel: 11.5Jx22 ET47

And i think this setup works the best. The front will poke out a little bit by 25mm - but thats less than an inch only.

Tires -> CONTINENTAL VIKINGCONTACT 7 285/45R22
Wheels -> Mandrus Estate 22x9.5 5x112 +20mm Matte Black Wheel Rim 22" Inch

Using the willtheyfit.com, the rear seems perfect and the front just pokes out by an inch or so. (which i dont think i care that much unless there are mechanical issue to it.

I cannot find a place that will sell all these in one single place, so i may have to order them seperately.

What do you think about the setup?

thanks

It should be fine as long as the front wheels clear car frame at full turn... You might get more water/mud splash on the fronts... At the same time, you can rotate the tires easier. I don't know the other winter tires, but PA5 are directional so only rotation is on the same side with front to back...

You can ship the tires into any wheel installer... Also you need to get TPMS for the new set if the installation shop doesn't have them... I ended up in a MB indie repair shop... When I ordered the wheels, the lug nuts were separate. OEM lug nuts doesn't fit to Mandrus wheels. You need to order conical lug nuts. 27mm lug nuts fit to mine. You can check with GLS owners...

How do i ensure this pls?

And did you have any issues with TPMS that you got? I am looking at an online place where it has both wheels/tires to the ones i want, and they hhave "Free TPMS" set if i purchase it as a package. I am not sure if there are any "knock offs" or if one is better than the other.

GLS owners can advise you if they did similar or more aggressive offset. Otherwise you need to install wheel+tire and see. My TPMS was ordered by the MB repair shop. I don't know what he ordered.
