Tint windshield?

Hello everyone. I just snagged a preowned 2020 GLS580. I’ll post pics as soon as I get it back from window tint and ceramic. Quick question. Have any of you tinted the windshield. I’m getting mixed answers if it will mess with the camera/safety system. Any help would be appreciated.

Years ago, a rich friend of mine tinted the windshield of his all black E-class car.
It was the stupidest thing he said he ever did because at night he would stick his head out the front window in order to see the road.
He eventually removed the tint.

In New York, it is illegal to put any tint on the front windows, and probably the windshield as well.

Sounds like your rich friend tinted it too much. I’ve done it to my last 4 vehicles and haven’t had an issues seeing at night. Looks great too.

Did you buy chance get it from North Carolina? Reason I ask is that I just traded my 580 in 2 days ago and still have some OEM extras for sale.

I have a complete spare tire kit with all tools, spare tire, and 2 reverse logic wheel hangers. Also have 4 factory 20 inch wheels with Cooper tires and TPMS. I was going to use the wheels for winter as my vehicle came with 23 inch wheels with summer tires. Wheels are flawless and tires have about 300 miles on them.

I had a visor tint strip added, plus 2 front windows darkened to match 2nd row. I have the thermal tint package so didn't need to consider front windshield tinting but my guy does it all the time and probably the way I'm going for my wife's A6 before next summer.

I have always wodnered about tinting the front windshield, but always end up with just the clear ceramic tint. My fear is that it will be too dark in certain instances, and definitely illegal to do for California cars. If anything, I would highly recommend the ceramic tint, but if you must go darker, I did see a few "suitable" shades that I could see myself driving with everyday. Post pictures if you get it done!

Any tint on the front windshield is illegal but I do it anyways. At a minimum you want to do a 70% but I've gone as well as 50% and never had a problem being pulled over or seeing at night. It will not affect any of the cameras because those are all located in an area that will not be tinted. Any film that I've been having installed recently is the Xpel XR Plus so their 70% will block out and filter the same amount of UV and infrared heat as standard 5% limo tint. It's amazing stuff.

I've had a BMW tinted that had many electronics in the windshield. Never had any problems.

i have 3M crystalline on my front windshield (70%) and two front side windows (20%) and have had no issues. the tint is applied on the inside, so it doesn't cover any of the cameras/sensors that are located up by the rearview mirror. i also don't have any issues with my ezpass transponder.

with regards to visbility, turning left into a dark intersection can get dicey when looking out of the 20% tint side window, but forward visibility through the windshield 70% tint is perfectly fine. i've seen people with limo tinted windshield and have no idea how those guys can see at night.
