How quiet is the GLS compare to the S-Class

Considering pulling the trigger on a new GLS... Currently on a Lexus LX570 and although it's very solid and reliable, it's a bit noisy on highway and sometimes I have to crank up the stereo to enjoy music but my passengers gets uncomfortable. Just wondering how quiet the GLS is compare to the S class?

It is very quiet for an SUV, especially with the acoustic comfort package, but at the end of the day you are still moving a very large object through the air at high speed. It isn't as quiet as the S-Class but there won't be many, if any, SUVs that do the job better, IMO.

CincyMBGuy - off topic, but wondering if you have had the opportunity to drive the EQS SUV ?????

I haven't yet but I'm looking forward to it. I'm curious to see how well they mitigate road and wind noise in such a large vehicle without any engine background noise.
I'll get my hands on the EQB relatively soon and I'll be sure to share my thoughts on both once I have the chance.

I’d say it’s very quiet, especially if you make sure whatever tires you put on are the Mercedes’ specifics that include the foam liner for even more road noise insulation.

in terms of wind noise, and this applies to all vehicles - clay bar and detail the car, especially the windshield. When you clay bar the car and put on whatever wax or ceramic costing that you like, the wind noise reduces dramatically as the car slips through the air. On our GLS that has Michelins but not MB specific, it’s still a very quiet vehicle at highway speeds. I have no complaints. But sound is really in the ears of the owner. What might bother you, may not bother me at all.

Two simple answers here: one, look at the instrumented test of each from Car and Driver. Two, use a sound pressure level app on your phone and test drive one of each.

I have owned 5 S class and three GLSs. The S class is far quieter due to extensive rubber seals and double paned glass.

I am reminded how quiet my GLE and GLS are everytime I drive anything else. There are some (granted, not luxury) SUVs that I've rented where the road noise makes cell phone use worthless!

I have a 21 GLS450 without the acoustic comfort package. I have ~5500 miles since taking delivery in Nov 21. Car is very quiet in highway. The piped engine sound is very tastefully done but you know it’s not the real sound of the engine.

however, the front drivers door has a small squeak which is driving me mad. I have tried removing everything in the storage area in the door but It doesn’t help. Only the driver door. Go figure. Build quality on this car seems dodgy at best. For example - If you press the trim around drivers door to close the door you can feel the flex such that you wouldn’t want to press on that to close the door. If you press the the interior door trim, you can feel the flex. Going to take it in to have that door looked at.

I also have a 1986 190E and the build quality in that seems better than here. But that car is def more noisy!

I have a ‘22 GLS450 with approximately 7,000 miles (mostly highway) that has the acoustic package and 20” tires. Compared to my wife’s ‘22 GLE with AMG wheels and tires it is definitely quieter. And compared to my 2018 Jeep Wrangler it is EXCEPTIONALLY quieter! The acoustic package definitely helps IMO.
